Can I just say, the Qantas new "Text Us" service is frikkin unbelievable.
Like, SOOOOOOOOOO amazing. I'll never call QF again. Ever.

I had an award booked BNE-MEL-SIN-HKT all in one day. I originally wanted F MEL-SIN but there was no availability, so I booked J the whole way and patiently waited to see what would happen.

Lo and behold, today I finally had 2 F seats open up, but it was two days earlier than my original departure.
I tried to change it online but couldn't get it done so I quickly texted the new Qantas Text service and got an answer to my query within minutes - yes, they could change my award booking to be just BNE-MEL-SIN and get me into those EK F seats.

Then I mentioned I'd just buy a revenue fare for the SIN-HKT leg two days later because I preferred an earlier flight now that I was already in SIN, and she offered to throw it all in on the same award booking (I had no idea I could have a 36 hour stopover?).

A couple of mins later she quoted me the increased taxes and points required to upgrade to F, and 5 minutes after that she phoned me to take payment.

Voila.

I now have completely changed my award, all 3 flights have changed either days or times, and I'm sooooooooo frikkin excited to have my very first EK F experience!

October can't come fast enough!

I don't know why they only seem able to provide this level of service by SMS, and not by email or webchat or twitter or any of the other non-voice methods of getting in touch.

I know, right? It took maybe 15 mins for the entire transaction, and aside from taking payment the whole entire thing was done via text. It would have taken me HOURS to speak to a human over the phone.

I quite like the text service too.

I selected seats on QF12 JFK>LAX>SYD while I was having dinner. The person was nice and polite and gave me seat options when I asked for E or F on the A380 leg, and then she promptly booked the seat for me when I told her what option I wanted. I'm SG and one of the options she gave me appears to be unavailable for SG to select (Row 16E/F).

Now I'm tossing up if I should go for an F upgrade for the A380 leg. If I do want to apply for this, I'll just do it via text.

Is it the security of the SMS number bein associated with your FF ?
I would prefer chat but there is no security on that so to speak?

Yep, they check your mob # against the booking ref and if it matches all is good. Before they made any changes to my bookings they called me and performed an ID check.

Doing an upgrade is probably easier online

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The same time chat option is, frankly, hopeless. I used it recently and I was told to 'call the service centre' as they only had very limited access to the frequent flyer system.

Could you tell me how I text Qantas please. (I want to initiate a One World Award booking and am constantly getting an error msg when trying to do so online!)

Glad it worked for you.

The SIN-HKT can be part of your overall booking/ticket, but will be priced as a stand-alone separate flight. (Stopovers are permitted on an award ticket, just flights will be priced individually).

Yep, I know that now. This thread is 6 months old :)
