Poor old A380's aren't getting the best press around at the moment, are they?

The media goes through phases. I can remember a time when every single 330 incident (no matter how trifling) was reported. I believe this was after AF447.

Indeed, and perhaps the stories will be interspersed with the 787 now too :p

Interesting that after returning to the bay it was able to finally takeoff without problem a little later. Wonder what caused it.

If there's a problem with the steering it's probably best found on the take off roll rather than on landing.

Software, after all it is an Airbus :D

Oh and from the article, what would have happened at SYD :evil::shock:

"The delay to the flight meant the plane required clearance by Heathrow authorities to take off, because the airport's night curfew had begun.

I wonder if JB was driving?
No.

It's interesting, in that the aircraft was obviously taxied to the runway, and back, so it's not the nose gear steering per se. On the runway, the tiller isn't used, and any NG steering inputs come from the rudder pedals. In any event, a low speed (less than about 70 knots) abort is a non event...and if you must have an abort, it's the best kind.....

Many years ago in a 767 I had the highest speed abort that I've ever been involved with after an NG issue, so whilst Airbus might be a bit more prone to these faults, they aren't alone.

IMHO, a mechanical fault.

I wonder how many of these happen that go unnoticed.

It's a A380 and also it is the big Q

Re: Are A380's safe enough to fly? [hairline cracks found in wings]

And the link between cracks and steering is?????

I think john john was simply avoiding starting a new thread. The overarching theme of this thread is whether or not the A380s are safe enough to fly. Steering issues would seem pertinent to that discussion.

Re: Are A380's safe enough to fly? [hairline cracks found in wings]

Am I mistaken or has this happened before on another A380?

Explains my late flight out of Singapore, last night. Due for QF78@ 1930 but it was delayed until 2300 (2315 push back in the end I think). Figured it was QF10 but never found out what the problem was.
