Fellow AFFs,

We have planned a trip to Vancouver at the end of 2019, and I have managed to secure award bookings in J flying Cathay Pacific between SIN and YVR via HKG, and then the same return. We are two adults and two kids (i.e. 4x pax).

First prize was PER-HKG-YVR but unfortunately this year it was incredibly difficult to get PER-HKG award seats in Y, Y+ or J on Cathay, so flying from SIN was the best I could do. I also called the QF premium help desk who also only managed to find the above.
(This is the first time I've found it so difficult to get CX seats between PER and HKG, never had an issue before even for 4x pax...)

The issue I now have is securing PER-SIN seats – there are no QF award seats available in Y or J on the dates we wanted to go (15 Dec 2019, return 5 Jan 2020), nor cheap red e-deals. All fares currently are full fare Y or J. I have been checking regularly for almost a month now.

I called the QF premium desk and asked whether they could release 4x award seats however they could not. I’ve also looked at SQ however they also have expensive Y fares on these dates. I didn’t want to fly JQ or similar low cost carriers.

Does anyone know whether QF hold sales for PER-SIN during the year? Trying to figure out a cost effective way to get from PER-SIN (return) on a full service airline...

Appreciate your feedback,
DB.

An alternative might be via KL with MH. A couple of times I have looked and their fare to Sin via KL was only a few dollars more than just to KL. They certainly seem to have a lot more sales than SQ & QF. With SQ & QF being the only two "full service" airlines operating Per-Sin direct you are pretty restricted.

Honestly it's a little bit early for commercial fares to drop down in price at the moment. Give it another 2 months and I reckon the prices will drop by a little.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes done this a few times for Status runs on MH in the past (before simpler and fairer... ;) ) Would prefer not to only because it adds more segments to the trip, but I have it as a last resort I guess.
