Qantas has filed preliminary domestic service by its new Boeing 787-9, currently set to operate between 06NOV17 and 14DEC17.

Melbourne – Perth
QF775 MEL0645-0755PER Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
QF769 MEL1305-1415PER Sun
QF772 PER0955-1630MEL Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
QF776 PER1720-2355MEL Sun

Melbourne – Sydney
MEL departure: QF442 Day 6, QF460 Day x67
SYD departure: QF439 Day 6, QF497 Day x67

At time of booking, flight information continues to display Airbus A330-200 aircraft operating, however the seating configuration is J42Y194 (Premium Economy sold as Economy), instead of J28Y243.

Nice. I guess probably only high status can select the PE seating at this stage with it opening up to low/no status passengers closer to departure?

Yes, I see it on QF460 MEL-SYD 10/11/17.

of course we know these schedules probably will change, or at least on the day slip. Still fun to see the plan!

Would be nice to get to try the 787. Maybe when I fly between MEL and SYD in December I'll get to try it though I guess it is a bit unlikely to happen to book on a flight it runs on.

It would be nice to see what the PE seats are like without having to fork out for one on a long haul flight. Even if I booked PE long haul I'd be hoping for an upgrade to J, but for a one hour flight I almost always fly Y.

So Mon-Fri (Days 1-5) its operating
QF775 MEL 0710 PER 0820
QF772 PER 1000 MEL 1630
QF460 MEL 1830 SYD 1955
QF497 SYD 2205 MEL 2340

Sat
QF442 MEL 1500 SYD 1625
QF439 SYD 1400 MEL 1535

Sun
QF769 MEL 1305 PER 1415
QF776 PER 1710 MEL 2340

Saturday schedule has issues. QF422 would make more sense.

I think I may have to book a Y and J flight, one in each direction that can be moved around without penalty. Just need to work out what would be possible for MEL-SYD run

Have any WPs been successful in requesting yield management to open up award seats on the Int'l MEL-PER and vv? I know QF have been blocking awards on these flights deliberately.

Cool Just booked 14 Nov QF776 to test it out to see if I could sit on it for 20 hours PER to LHR !!

Warning note from one of the AusBT editors.

We've spoken with Qantas about this earlier today - these are only 'preliminary filings' which aren't set in stone, and may change based on the airline's aircraft delivery dates with Boeing and a range of other factors.

In short, they've suggested that people who book these particular flights may end up being disappointed by the aircraft type, so if anybody is specifically seeking a Qantas Boeing 787 flight, wait until the actual aircraft type shows as the 787: not just the seatmap. :)

Here are some seat maps from 17 Nov MEL-SYD

If you book and use EF I would be setting up the aircraft change alert

Maybe the strong forward bookings for MEL-PER-LHR have convinced QF management that Y-class passengers just love 9 across, so they're going to convert some A330's to it also? ;-)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Is this a temporary thing, like JQ's domestic 'marketing' 787 routes in 2013 (I think it was), or is the QF 787 here to stay within Oz alongside scheduled international routes?

I would've thought only Air NZ would seat 9 across, being suited to hobbits... :D

Temporary, other than the tag flights between PER and MEL of course when international service commences.

Temporary 787 domestic flights between 1st and 2nd aircraft arriving.
Once the 2nd arrives, both start on MEL-LAX QF95/96.
Once the 3rd arrives, all 3 will be doing MEL-LAX with a temporary reduction on weekly flights operated by A380 on QF93/94. It is possible during this period that there will be some domestic flights between flights to LAX to free up an A330 for SYD-KIX.
Once the 4th arrives, all 4 will be doing LAX-MEL-PER-LHR.

Hi All, I'm not sure if anyone knows this yet but do we know which flight will actually be the inaugural flight? Will it be SYD-MEL, MEL-SYD, MEL-PER or PER-MEL?

Cheers
