Qantas to Introduce New International Fare Structure 27 November 2013
http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/news/201311/1120

Qantas is pleased to introduce new International tariff structures and fare conditions, which will provide Travel Agents with enhanced simplicity and flexibility in booking travel with Qantas.

The new fares will apply to all tickets issued in Australia for travel on Qantas operated services to the Americas, South Africa, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines and New Caledonia.

Fare levels will be released for travel on/after 16 February 2014 for sales and ticketing from:

Wednesday 4 December 2013 for Economy and where available, Premium Economy fares; and
Wednesday 11 December 2013 for Business and where available, First fares.

Key features of the new structure deliver greater uniformity in our International fare product offering, including:
Streamlined use of fare families;
Consistent RBD mapping;
Simplified Stopover, Change and Cancellation fee conditions; and
Streamlined Ticketing Time Limits.

These changes follow an independent review of our international fare structure across the joint Qantas and Emirates network in March, as part of our partnership across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and the Middle East and North Africa. By extending these simplified fare conditions across the rest of the Qantas international network, our customers will enjoy greater uniformity in bookings, no matter the destination.

Oh-oh:

enhanced simplicity and flexibility in booking travel with Qantas

That's not encouraging!

I see no mention at all about "cheaper" - which they would have done if they could possibly squeeze it in. (or even words to the effect of 'little change in tariff')

On the Y and R/W pages, there is no mention of 'southeast Asia' yet these new 'fare families' apply to Indonesia and Philippines. Last time I looked they were both in southeast Asia, not north Asia which is separately identified for cancellation fees and so on.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Accompanied child fares for Y and F are increasing a lot.

QF is also introducing a charge (i.e. fee) for rebooking, rerouting or cancellations after a passenger fails to show up for a flight (no show).

A hint......

You may request an international Flight Upgrade Award from Discount Economy# (excluding E, N, O, Q and X class) to Premium Economy (where available+)
Economy# to Premium Economy (where available+)
Discount Economy# (excluding E, N, O, Q and X class) to Business

Next Question, is it an oversight or a real positive change?

What do you mean? Sale fares are still being sold in N, Q and O buckets.

Previously the non eligible fares where a mix of Red e deal and sale, now we now that if its not a sale fare, its upgradable! Much clearer, especially when booking via the QF website where fare bucket has been hidden two a certain extent.

Right, I don't think it's going to make much difference. Most people purchase the cheapest fare available and most of the time it's a sale fare internationally. The sales are almost always on

BUT How do you know what fare bucket it is going to book into. I cant see that the buckets are memtioned under the various new descriptions of the new economy for example. I cant see any thing different to what we have now.

To help me see it and perhaps others can you give us an example of what you mean?

Under the new scheme the bucket is somewhat irrelevant, under the type "sale" is grouped all the in-eligible fares, rest are all eligible, where as previously you had to drill down to the fare bucket as some red e deals where not eligible. So if you want to put in an upgrade, book saver and above.

In theory it should make things a lot simpler, practice, well lets see, QFs booking engine is hardly worlds best practice.

Well those new rules only apply to certain places. I didn't see singapore mentioned? The current singapore 'saver' fare does not allow upgrades

JCA routes are excluded as mentioned, so BKK, SIN and KUL in the Asian context.

Hi Markis

It also satates as follows

Qantas Frequent Flyer

What changes for Qantas Frequent Flyers have resulted from this fare 28.restructure?

There will be no changes for Qantas Frequent Flyers as a result of the tariff restructure.

So Upgrades Still the same lottery as we have now.

It also mentions that there is no change to UK and Europe Travel as this was already done as part of the EK tie up

This restructure does not include the Qantas and Emirates (JCA) Joint Coordination Agreement network. These routes including travel from Australia to the United Kingdom, broader Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa, were restructured as part of the Joint Pricing Proposition rolling implementation, which concluded 14 August 2013.
So does this mean different rules and booking classes apply to the same fare types on Europe UK Route Versus Asia Routes?

I am reading that if travelling to ASIA the current non Upfradeable fares will ALL be in Saver fares whereas all other fare types are upgradeable?

So Now NO Sales fares are upgradeable unless it is on a UK/Europe ticket and in the right fare bucket

Sorry but why not have one simple classification that applies to all Routes

This is going to create confusion.

As indicated in the FAQ's they are already aligned in the EK context with those ports ...

As far as upgradability goes I'll still rely on fare buckets. (Not that I upgrade much these days, JASA's make such much less of an issue ...)

If it is intentional, then I think it is a good thing. Proof in the pudding, I think.
