I've been looking at fares for a possible trip in February from Perth to Zurich. One of the possible trips is EK421/87 on 8 Feb, returning 14 Feb on EK88/420. Emirates are charging $1421 return, and yesterday the Qantas codeshare price was $1561. I was considering paying the $80 extra to get 9600 FF points, but today the QF pricing has jumped to $1976. This is a huge difference - which makes me wonder if it's indicative of something changing within the Qantas/Emirates relationship? Any ideas why the difference between the "partners" is that huge?

Probably just indicates that all the seats in a particular fare bucket have been sold and so pricing is being shown for the next highest fare bucket.

Wow there is a fair bit of cynicism within the second last sentence!
What is probably in play here is that the cheaper fare bucket(s) have sold out on the dates you wish to fly, hence the jump in price.

Haha, I can see how it might read like that, but it's more of a newbie question....

That was my first thought too, but the price is the same from mid-Jan to end of Feb, so wouldn't it be unlikely that all of the cheapest fares sold out overnight...

I don't understand how such a significant price difference will work for Qantas - $555 more than their partner Emirates, and ~$640 more than Qatar with similar timing

Alternatively you could wait a few days and see if it comes down again.

I can still see the cheaper fare on a third party site (cheapoair.com) and a cheaper option (above in the screenshot).
If you have no luck booking direct that might be an option. Check terms and conditions of course.
As QF has no non-earning fare buckets it is safe from that point of view. Have to be careful with other carriers.
