Qantas Premier Titanium card

Not sure why people on here think its such a no go - yes the fee is too expensive and yes the benefits aren't enough

But I've gone for and justified it because $1200 for 150,000 QF points plus 20% extra SCs (which will help me retain Platinum with mostly self funded flying) and the 10% discount (which I'll probably use a J flight once or twice a year).

That said - without the 150k, it wouldn't be worth it for me - so I won't keep this in year 2 without some sort of retention offer.

Yes their are better options but I have or have had most of those so not many other options for cards I don't have or have had within last 12 months

Oh and I hope I never cross paths with Mattg! He sounds like the idiot - not me!!

I just read a nearby thread which outlines that there are no more retention offers of cc fees. Perhaps, a points bonus if lucky(?)

An extra $100 for those bonus SCs could be very attractive to some

I've never met him either but online I reckon he's a good bloke-first thing I've ever disagreed with him over (I am also jealous of his Travel Map:))

Haha.

Haha. Fair enough. First time I’ve come across him ;) And my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek so I will give him a second chance :)

As a metallurgist, my biggest bugbear is the use of "titanium" after "platinum"! Are you kidding!!!!! a coughpy rather cheap metal that is mainly used for the white pigment in paint, has to be alloyed with other metals to stop it failing when its heated, like in aircraft.......

Get real and use something like "palladium" or "iridium", something sexy and expensive in the metals industry.

But by the sounds of the above conversations they should have called it "lead" as it seems to be going that way:)

Me and my big mouth. Just received the Marriott Bonvoy letting us know the new world of the combined groups; I've been "upgraded" from Platinum Elite to Titanium Elite!!!!!

I partially understand as whoever came up with the name Bonvoy probably also thought that Ti was better than Pt.......

For the record, I don’t think anyone posting in this thread is an idiot! If you’ve done the maths and worked out that you can get some benefit out of this card, then go for it. :)

My comment was aimed at people that would get the card purely so they can show it off as some sort of status symbol.

Really? Is AFF going to stoop to the depths of FT by referring to fellow members as 'IDIOTS' just because they hold differing views? Really?

The use of words such as ‘idiot’ and ‘cough’ in Australia is much more jovial in nature (obviously depending on circumstances!) than how it is taken in the more US centric world of FT. I would hate to think Aussie sarcasm and humour can’t flow through this forum!

Over 100 replies to this thread for a card almost no one wants... hmm or should I say more accurately, for a card almost no one admits they want.

The math is simple, this card buys 150k QF points for 0.8c p/p. All other benefits are irrelevant. QF points are valued at minimum 1c so buying at 0.8c is definitely something worth considering.

Are there better value cards out there? Absolutely.
Can we get all the points we need from other cards? The answer for me is no, therefore I buy points and that’s how I would have looked at this card if I were eligible to apply.

It was hard selling off my Holden Kingswood oz-mark.
A status drop for Mrscove from QF Platinum would make it tough for me so I have to buy her a ticket or two each year for her.
Not sure we need another Citibank credit card when we have two cards each that pay points on everything. You don’t have to think is it eligible for points but with Citi you do.
Anyway our 2018 personal tax papers are with our accountants so we couldn’t apply until the returns are finalized with the fiscal fiend.

I was a bit concerned that your titanium scissors may not be effective at cutting up your titanium card when the time comes!!

oz-mark I now share your concern.
I looked in our home office drawer now that I am back from Melbourne and have discovered Mrscove is a secret hoarder of stainless, steel, titanium and plastic scissors.
I am uncertain about whether to bother.
I have 2 US Citi credit cards plus Citi Select to get 4 night stays and pay for three at hotels.
The foreign exchange rate Australian Citi credit cards use is pretty awful when you travel overseas.

The 10% saving is attractive as it would pay for the fee a few times over. But I value my TA far more than a few thousand dollars.

As a WP that may struggle to requalify, this card has some merit

  • 20% easier to retain WP although not if tied to a DSC promotion
  • All my business travel is done on personal cards and reimbursed although I note it must be booked on Qantas.com
  • 1.25 points/dollar for all transactions (except government) allowing me to drop the Amex Ultimate card saving $450
  • Mrs HockeyMonkey can use the lounge passes when she occasionally travels on her own instead of paying for a QP membership
  • 2 bonus points per dollar on Qantas spend
  • 2 points per dollar on international spend

Might churn the ANZ black card first to get 120k points but take this offer up for Mrs HockeyMonkey before April 30. Then 12 months later churn to myself if there are still 150k bonus points on offer and I’ve not managed to retain WP.

The only gotcha is that both of us have had a Qantas Money Platinum card in the past 12 months. Would that make us ineligible for the bonus points?
