Qantas Premier Credit Card

I rang up yesterday and asked for a fee waiver. After a bit of condescending patter and a hold while she 'checked with the back office' I was given 2000 QFF points. Card is due to expire in February.

Given the lack of potential flights for at least 12 months the value proposition doesn't work. I have other ways to keep points active so time to cancel it and thrash my free CommBank card with no rewards.

Maybe try again once the annual fee has posted. Mine has and I rang and said I don't want to pay the annual fee. Some tapping and said they system says I can have it at 50%. I said the most I'd be willing to pay is $50 or I'll cancel. Said they need to submit that to the back office and I'll hear back in a few days. I should hear back by CoB tomorrow. If I don't I'll follow up on Monday and cancel.

My annual fee was due in December. I rang and did the blurb about waiving the fee. Best I could do was a 50% reduction. As I am nearing retirement (its easier to get a new card approval whilst still working), I am going with the 50% as I quite like the card and I have always had good customer service.

I'm looking for a new card as I've got a decent stash of VA points and I figure it's better to start building up into Qantas just to hedge my bets, and this one looks good - plus the current card I've got is changing up and I've been meaning to close it for a while so here I go.
What's the thing you like most about this card?

That you can earn one point for dollar up to $10k/month. That's one of the higher limits for 1 to 1 earning.

Yes I like the one point for dollar earn. They do also give two lounge passes per year (not that is being used at present).
There is also bonus points for shopping at certain stores. e.g. David Jones and other retail brands

I think the lowest first year fee this card has ever gotten was $139 right? I think I will strike when the fee is at its lowest. Can't get bonus points for the card until December this year as I just used my Everyday credit card.

It seems $149 was on offer in 2017 & 2018 however hasn’t been seen for a while, this fee is reasonable however when you’ve received free Westpac offers or Amex travel credits, paying for points in this market I’ve started to rethink... 🤔

Considering the situation has somewhat intensified with wearing masks onboard, borders opening / closing and 2nd strain isn’t promising.

Outside QF points, it seems the StGeorge CC model of annual spend & retaining the card for 2 years maybe the way to go and breeze through the years as there’s no urgency of amassing!

Just not sure who is better to deal with, Citibank with this card or StGeorge, both are incompetent.

Another year up on the Premier Platinum.

Made the annual call to get a fee reduction, got the standard $100 off for the annual fee, plus halving of the supplementary. Same as last year and the year before.

I’m about to cancel after having held for 2 months and received bonus points on the first statement. Any recent experience with having the annual fee refunded?

Of course they didn't get back to me. I called today to follow it up and was told they reviewed if and can offer me a 50% discount. This is what I was offered last week when I called. Card cancelled.

Rang and closed the card today and requested a refund of the annual fee as I only opened it in November. Have the excuse that I am about to apply for a mortgage so looking to reduce credit limits. The request for a refund has been noted and will find out if it happens I assume when the final statement is issued. Will advise any success.
