Qantas Premier Credit Card

I bit. 70k for $149 is a good sweet spot. Approved today. Citi are brutal, they still cold call and expect you to hand over your personal info to pass security checks.
I’ve had this card within last 12 months and cancelled a different citi card on Monday - which was also a 20 minute argument before they’d let me cancel... didn’t affect approvals.

I got knocked back with this card upon submission of application. I have not had success with any Citibank backed card over the last 3 months after cancelling my Citi Reward Platinum. Applied for Virgin High Flyer (cancelled a Virgin Flyer 6 months before), St Georges, and Qantas Premier (cancelled a Qantas Premier 8 months before)… in the mean time I still had success with ANZ cards.

Looks like Citi does not want churners as their customer. I ordered a credit check but everything looks normal. My finance is also good and employment stable so that's the only reason I can think of. Any of you who has great success churning Citi based cards recently?

As above - I've churned qantas premier and citibank signature in last 12 months, and have just been approved for another qantas premier 2 days after closing the signature.
They did give me a lot of grief cancelling the signature as they'd given me "an extremely generous sign-up offer" and I wasn't showing them any loyalty etc.

Relatively painless this time around. Applied last Wednesday and managed to stuff up by attaching payslips and ID online under the same category. Multiple phone calls on Friday which I missed ... and thought here we go again! I answered the phone call this morning and all they wanted was to confirm that I submitted the online application, then said it was approved. Was expecting the usual irrelevant questions ... phew. Cancelled the previous card in May 17.

Lining this up as my next card. Just waiting for a cancellation or two to come through.

Got the Qantas Premier everyday during the no annual fee promo. First statement got the 20k bonus after meeting $2k spend, however two of those transactions were deemed government and did not earn regular points.
If you count only the points earning transactions, that did not meet the $2k requirement for that month.
Something to consider for those who might be wondering.
In general (for many cards), only points earning transactions count as eligible spend toward the required quota for the sign on bonus - but that did not apply in this case.

My annual fee has just hit my account. I will be phoning this afternoon to see how I go with at least a reduction in the fee.
Would you still get the remaining 30,000 points on the first anniversary renewal if you negotiate a reduction in the annual fee?

I agree it’s a good sweet spot to get the 70K bonus and then cancel it before the anniversary. Going to apply for myself to replace my HSBC Visa (got a 90K bonus with it) and hubby’s Comm bank card.

@goldenhorn I originally signed up for this card 12 months ago. No annual fee and 60,000 points I think.
The bonus 30,000 points on renewal is on the new sign up card offer, which includes paying the annual fee of $299. But I would not think that if they waived the annual fee you would get the extra bonus points.

Ah I see. Thanks!

Interesting clause that the bonus will “ordinarily” will be paid within 6 - 8 weeks. That gives them a flexible timeline, And more difficult to tell them they are in breach.

Yep seems that way. From the 'Important information' section;ing that it states “ordinarily” will be paid

Up to 100,000 bonus Qantas Points offer is available to new approved Qantas Premier Platinum credit card account holders who apply by 28 February 2019. 70,000 bonus Qantas Points will be awarded when $3,500 is spent in the first 90 days from approval. Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions do not contribute to the spend threshold. The 70,000 bonus Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. Once the annual fee is paid on the anniversary of the card approval, allow up to 12 weeks for the remaining 30,000 bonus points to be awarded. All rewards are subject to the Qantas Premier Credit Card Rewards Terms and Conditions. The account needs to be in good standing for bonus points to be awarded. Offer may be extended or withdrawn at any time.

Well I cancelled after I had received my free lounges passes (and annual fee had been charged) and they reversed fee but I kept the passes so I guess it depends when you actually get the points. They told me I had up until the statement payment date to close.

Yay! Just got approved for this card. I wasn't very hopeful. It took almost 2 weeks and I had to send in my last two personal tax returns (I'm self-employed).

Now to get spending that $3,500 in the first 90 days!

After 3 long and painful weeks dealing with Qantas Money/Citibank I finally was approved for this card. The overseas call centre and lack of any Australian contacts is the worst. Even though it's a pretty good deal in regards to points/lounge passes vs annual fee I do need to remind myself when it comes to Citibank - never again!!

Definitely too much hassle. This is my second time dealing with Citibank - their call centre is worryingly incompetent considering the amount of personal details you give them. Bracing myself for the next phone call when the points don't show up!

I had no issues with my application, they called me 2 days after my application went in to confirm some details and was approved minutes later. Met the spend within the first 2 weeks and points have posted with the first statement. Very easy.

What was the card turnaround like from approval to receiving it in the post? I am waiting for St George to update with credit agencies that I closed their card in DEC before I apply for this card. 7th of the month seems to be when St George update.
