Sorry if this is not quite worthy of a thread... I've done some searching but been fruitless so far and hoping for some help to solve what is to me, a mystery:confused:

Last month I travelled on Finnair from SIN to MUC (via Helsinki) return, crediting the flights to QFF. On the way over, the Singapore-Helsinki leg netted 2,884 points and the Helsinki-Munich 491 points. However... on return, the points for both legs were basically halved?! (1442 and 246). Status credits remained the same and this happened for me and all travelling companions who are just bronze members. The boarding pass just says 'y' for economy from what I can tell, though they both appear in my QFF points statement as 'discount economy'? From what I can tell, we got 0.5 of the points/mile on the way over, but just 0.25 on the way back - can someone tell me why?

Thanks!

Your booking must have been in different fare buckets for each direction.

It seems like the booking fare was any one of these on the way over

GLMNOPQSTV

And one of these on the way back

ARWZ

And holy cough that's a huge spread of booking classes... You'd think being in the one alliance they'd tidy it up a bit, I mean A, Z, T, R and W not being first, business or premium economy? o.0 They seem fairly common and standardised across the other airlines in *O. Especially with A for a first class fare, and W being Premium economy.

Thanks for the quick replies! Yep, ok... seems to be the different fare buckets thing... I had booked through expedia (aus!) and so just assumed as a combined return ticket, they'd be at the same rate. Never assume anything I guess... they must have defaulted into different classes. I'm not sure how can I tell from any original emails from expedia which seem quite general.

Are any of the fare rules listed on those emails? Or the fare code? The first letter of the fare code should tell you what fare you were booked into.

wow, ok, wasn't easy... but looks like it's been found! On an expedia online itinerary it's showing the outbound flights as (O) and the return as (R). Fits then with tje different categories you initially listed CaviAck - thanks!
