Hello all,
Can I pick your brains please ? A family member has 3000,000 Qantas expiring 30/6/17.To keep these he will need to generate some points activity on his account. If he were to book & stay at a hotel through Qantas Hotels before the expiry of 30/6, would these be credited to his account in time to avoid the lapsing of his points ?
At worse, would it be a better idea to do a family transfer of the points, these could be held for him & when he needs to book or use points, the family member could do it on his behalf.
Thanks for any advice.
Stroudie.

Family transfers do not affect the points expiry date. Points from hotel stays generally take about 4 weeks to post so it will be too late, as will points for other purchases like from Qantas online mall.

The quickest ways to have points activity is to
1) buy some wine from Epiqure as they post within 1-2 days of purchase, regardless of when the goods are despatched.
2) fly with QF which also posts in 1-2 days.
3) Spend some points from the account as this is activity.

Yes Epicure points post the quickest. I do know how to recover forfeited QF points provided not too much time has elapsed.

Buy wine or bubbles now! My experience has been buy bubbles, log out of OFF account, log back in. Points are there almost instantly.

From memory with Qantas family transfers don't count as activity on the account, however if you transfer the points to a family member that does have other activity on their account then it will extend the life of the points.

But I would also agree with others recommendations. Buy wine from Epiqure, points post very quickly.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Is it still possible to make a purchase from the Qantas online store for something small (2000 - 3000 QF points) to generate that points activity?
From memory, the points are then deducted immediately and therefore activity achieved.
A small price to pay to maintain 300 000 (or was it 3 000 000) points for another 18 months.

Whether it be 300,000 or 3,000,000 points....

It seems obvious that a minimal ?20,ooo Epicure purchase, even including delivery, or a simple 4500 point Giftcard purchase are a Moot Point.

For retaining the Balance of Account, even Flyinng someplace and back is still economical....for such a Balance, whether it be 300k or 3 Million.

Anywhere Syd n back on points is still SEVERELY cheaper thann losing such a balance.

But, obviously, the epicure or instore options are the cheapest and simplest....and quickest...also serve you with minor additional satisfaction.

But, If it's too hard, I guess I could marry into your family and you can transfer the point balance over to me ;) jus sayin ;)

Does this person. Not go to a supermarket at lest once a year?

Edit: or even something as basic as a jet* MasterCard?

Get the account holder to order a new Qantas Frequent Flyer Card, this should cost 1,000 points.

Thank you everybody for your replies. I've passed on your suggestions & also & hurry up to do something during the year/s to make sure this does not happen again.
Last resort, I suggested they family transfer to me :D

It is as simple to fix as buying a bottle of something from Epicure. That is what my SIL did for my 18 year old niece who had this problem.

transfer points to you temporary.. then you can transfer back later.. for long term solution.. load cash onto the Qantas Cash card.. and earn points regularly

However do note that the domestic earn is getting cut as of this Saturday (.25 points/dollar instead of 0.5ppd).

yes.. but surely.. 1 point is $4 and you can use it to buy 1 or 2 cups of coffee a month??
