I found out last week that Qantas had expired the F/flyer points both my wife & i had and as a consequence I had to drive a 2080 K round trip to Sydney. I had tried previously to use points for flights only to be informed there were no seats available on my selected flights for F/flyer members.
We have also flown with Jetstar several times within the last 18 months & it seems no points were added to our Qantas points account.
We are pensioners and while we didn't have a large amount of points the are important to us.
Any suggestions

regards

Welcome to AFF John Pocklington, my suggestion is to spend a bit of time here on AFF and learn about the frequent flyer programs so you don't get caught out a second time.

You're not the first person that this has happened to.

I know you wont like it, but my first piece of advice is that you should never have let this happen. It's extremely easy to keep your points balance active. But it's your responsibility to do so and to keep a check on this. You should not have assumed that flying Jetstar took care of this. You need to make sure that the flight qualified for points and that the points tracked to your account. Being vigilant about this is key.

What you may find more useful as immediate advice is to look at what has already happened with people in similar situations to you. This thread is a good start:

Anybody with any experience getting wiped points reinstated?

Good luck in your quest to have the points re credited toy our account.

Sorry to hear that.

Jetstar flights will only reset the activity clock if they earn points - which means you need to buy the more expensive Plus or Max packages.

For many the best way to keep the account active is by shopping at Woolworths and having the points earned directed to Qantas, rather than $10 vouchers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Welcome to AFF John.

As the others have noted above there are various relatively easy (and inexpensive :) ) ways to keep your account active.

Having said that, I would talk again to Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) and ask for a way to get your points balances restored. They will likely advise you need to earn a certain number of points to do this in a period of time.. And then AFF is your friend to find the best ways to do this (buying wine, for example, is a good way to do this quite cheaply - secially if you enjoy the budoir of the grape :) ).

All is likely not lost it is a matter of asking and seeing what QF will offer.

Best wishes.

Hi John, unfortunately it's a common occurrence as others have said. I just wanted to endorse the recommendation by @blackcat20, you have a limited timeframe within which Qantas may offer you a challenge (eg fly x in y time) to get your points back. On the one hand, it will require spending a bit of money, that part is unavoidable, but if the points had a value to you it is a one shot chance to get them back.

After an amount of time, they will no longer offer the challenge, so my advice is to go ahead, call them and ask them what they can offer, then come back and share it with us, and the members here can give you a rough idea of what the cost involved might be.
