Sorry if this has been clarified previously - have tried to find an answer on the forum.
We are travelling from Mel to HKG departing at 9:45am arriving at 4:15pm and the pre select meal service is showing as "Dinner"?
I would have thought this is "Lunch".
Do the 2 meals vary?
Am i missing something?
TIA

I don't think there is any real difference between what is offered for lunch or dinner.

In any case, you'll get lunch at the start of the flight and a smaller snack before arrival.

Agree it's very unlikely to differ. May we ask what class of travel, and what are the options? (Always useful info).

Travelling in J with my SO:
  • Tomato, saffron and chickpea soup with coriander yoghurt. (small plate)
  • Salad of duck with cucumber, herbs, cashews, chilli and lime dressing. (small plate)
  • Tasting Mediterranean mezze plate with dukkah spiced labne, sweet potato hummus and pita. (small plate)
  • Udon noodle soup with shiitake broth, roast carrots, tofu, bok choy and edamame beans.(main plate)
  • Chicken biriyani with roasted pumpkin and raita. (main plate)
  • Seared Humpty Doo barramundi with pan fried polenta, broccoli and almond romesco.(main plate)
I went with Barramundi as my main plate and Soup as my small plate.
Hope the are both of a good standard !
Welcome any feedback or suggestions. (also regarding best lounges to utilise in HK)

Personally I'd go with the duck salad and the chicken biryani!

I'd take the duck salad and ask onboard for a cup of soup too!

You'll have access to all the Cathay lounges in HKG as well as QF. If you are Platinum/One World Emerald status(?) you'd be able to access the Cathay First class lounges which would be my tip.

Thanks for the feedback - appreciated !
Lowly Silver QC and will do a bit of lounge hopping.

I really digged the biriyani on QF2904 two weeks ago. Indian food tends to do quite well in the air and this was no exception!

Yes Indian food reheats very well.

Just like how I often buy a curry intending to keep it in the fridge and eat it the next day the same approach no doubt carries over to the air!

Strong flavours are often better in the air. Sadly a lot of airlines simply use salt to for this. QF seemed to me at least to be salt-happy for a while a year ago but it has been a bit better lately.
