Qantas Lounge access for family

I have recently been upgraded to QFF Gold membership. I read on Qantas website regarding lounge access policy, it states that with QFF Gold membership I am entitled to take 1 guest (flying togther) to Qantas Club/Qantas international business lounge while travelling on QF/JQ/QF marketed code share flight. I will be travelling Jetstar MEL-SIN next month with my family (wife, 7 year old son and 14 month old daughter). I wanted to ask if I will be allowed to take my family to Qantas international lounge in Melbourne prior to departure. I did ring QFF customer service and they stated Qantas has policy where family is not usually seperated for lounge access, I would appreciate if anyone can confirm this. Do I have to request Qantas Lounge staff on the day to allow family (instead of 1 guest) and do they usually entertain such requests?

Agree with the others. Your 14 month old doesn't count as a guest. The only extra guest is the 7 year old. Never had any problem at any Qantas lounges guesting my kids in. Likewise in SIN should be no issues.

I have just got back from a trip with 4 people: me (QP), wife, 2 x kids. No problems with lounge access Sydney international (Qantas), LAX (AA domestic), LAX (Oneworld international). Nobody even mentioned it!

AFAIK QF have no official published family policy ( except that children under 3 yrs don't count as guests and QF may limit the QP member to two under 3's as per T&C's) it is widely accepted that status FF and QP members will be cut some slack when travelling with family. I don't think there is any difference ( based in my experience) between Domestic and international. I am permitted one guest in Int and two in Dom and have never had problems in either with 2 (child) guests.

As long as they are well behaved! The lounge is after all, not a kindergarten.

I just got back from the USA and had no troubles with my wife and 3 kids getting into QF / Admirals lounges. In Sydney we went to the family area and they came around with ice-creams for the kids! Very welcoming.

We did a first class round the world in 1989 (with 2 under 4) and again in 1993 (with 3 under 8) and I don't remember any issues with BA - we definitely were allowed in the lounges in London etc. However in 1998 I did a first class trip to Europe with my 11 year old - First class internationally and included a business class Paris London. He was not allowed to enter the lounge in Paris - I was quite amazed. I do remember being BA from Hong Kong to London in 1989 and having a gentleman in First Class complimenting me on how well behaved the children were - I think he had looked at 2 very young children and thought he was going to have a terrible flight!

I'd rather have some kids than some of the suits I've come across....nothing like reaching for the last slice of cheese and someone sticks a fork in your hand trying to beat you to it.

Hmm interesting - as I said the only time I ran into trouble was from Paris to London in 98. I definitely took kids into BA First lounge in Heathrow on numerous occasions in 89, 93, 98 and 99. trying to remember what the legs would have been - in 89 we went to Hong Kong, London and then Chicago, LA, Hawaii and home and in 93 did USA first then London, Singapore and home. In 98 it was just Aus, London/Europe and return. In 1999 we did Aus, London, Ukraine and return. I never read any rules, which is why I was so surprised in Paris - I thought it was a French thing. Given we were paying 2/3 (or 75%?) of a First Class fare for the kids, I would have been a bit cross if we couldn't take them in, but it was never an issue. They were always well behaved and monitored - I've never believed in kids running riot.

IMO, kids are exactly the same as adults - some you like around you & some you don't
