Qantas hotels ripoff

Qantas Hotels cancelled my hotel booking in Broome the day before I arrived. Had to rebook the hotel myself at a vastly inflated price. The only explanation given by Qantas hotels is that they no longer had my credit card details on file (they say they no longer keep credit card details) and they were unable to contact me. They refused my request for compensation. Have they done this to others ?

I had similar with Jetstar hotels a number of years ago where I turned up to hotel in Chiang Mai with my wife to find we had no booking.

Took a while to get it sorted. A huge inconvenience. No compensation.

This is very odd and something isn't quite right.

Did you fully prepay for this booking at the time of booking?
Hotels don't get guest's credit card details and only a virtual credit card to charge Qantas Hotels (Hooroo). I wonder if the hotel had no option but to cancel your booking. (Overbooking/no staff or something)

If it was the hotel that cancelled the booking it would likely be that they could get a lot more for the room.
however if it was the hotel that cancelled the booking you would think QF hotels would tell you.

With Qantas and Jetstar hotels (Hooroo) there is no option to pay later. It's always been prepaid for me.

It's possible the room reservation does not make it to the hotel for whatever reason.
