Effective 1 September 2012.

AYQ-CNS
QantasLink will reduce services from 14 weekly to 7 weekly

AYQ-PER
QantasLink will reduce services from 4 weekly to 2 weekly before completely suspending the route from 28 October

DRW-SYD
Jetstar will reduce from 11 weekly services to 7

DRW-DPS
Jetstar will reduce services from 11 weekly to 8 weekly

Which leaves a few comments/questions:

- where are the aircraft being redeployed / disposed?
- 8 weekly (to DPS) is an unusual number - which day gets the extra service?
- source?
- I would have thought AYQ would continue until end of school holidays if ending roughly at that timeframe.

JQ would probably add more East Coast services MEL-CNS, MEL-BNE and then again would probably give an a/c to JQ New Zealand.

Just my own comments - the Qantaslink reductions to AYQ-CNS in particular are a sign of tourism being totally dead in some parts of Australia. The AYQ-PER may have been marginal anyway. The JQ reductions of the SYD-DRW are interesting, I am also a little surprised at the DPS-DRW - presumably this means that people are reducing their holidays to Bali?

AirAsia probably have something to do with the DPS reductions, eastwest101.

There have been talks of the remaining CNS-AYQ turning around back to CNS to connect with JQ to NRT and KIX.

Could we see B717 operating CNS-MKY or CNS-ROK?

Ah yes - forgot about them. Just goes to show what happens to JQ once they meet a real LCC in a head-to-head competition. Just saw their unit cost, break-even load factors and utilisation and they must have given the JQ guys a bit of a bruising.

Doubt it, no market compared to other locations where they could use the aircraft, like increasing BNE GLT frequency.

Agree - QfLink 717's more likely to be seen in resource/mining destinations than AYQ or CNS due to mining boom and tourism bust. This dosen't entirely rule CNS out though as CNS could be a good FIFO base for future resource projects. Maybe more capacity in NW of WA?

That is a bizarre concept. I don't think Japanese tourists would be very welcome in Alice Springs and I don't think any Alice Springs residents would dream of going to Japan! I find your mention of Alice Springs bizarre in that context.

They probably know Ayres Rock (Uluru) is not Alice Springs though! I find your mention of Alice bizarre in that context!

Wouldn't be surprised if JQ will be taking over this route shortly, there are quite a few strong whispers going around.

I am very very glad I did the PER-AYQ flights to stay at Longitude 131 back in January.

Seems strange that they are cancelling it totally, the aircraft was full on our trip! Many even were flying to CNS via AYQ.

Disappointing that PER-AYQ is being cancelled. I haven't managed to make the trip yet, it works well for connecting to CNS (especially as an award flight when it is cheaper than PER-BNE-CNS), and it is a good value redemption in its own right (being under 1200mi).

Maybe the new VA/DJ SYD-DRW has reduced demand for some of the JQ services?
But I find it odd that they would fold to the competition so quickly, whether it be Air Asia or Virgin.
