Oh please please let's see an appropriate punishment! Good to see QF will seek to recover costs.

Qantas flight grounded after drunk passenger allegedly spits at crew | The Age

An international flight was diverted after a drunk Perth man allegedly tried to smoke a cigarette on the plane before punching and spitting on crew members.

The 34-year-old man was taken off the flight, en route from Sydney to Japan on Monday night, when it was diverted to Cairns.

Very classy actions.... Hopefully the judge will set an appropriate punishment. Then again, this is Australia where judgements read like a school report card. ("must try harder", "needs to do better",) rather than actual punishment.

I'm also glad to see that QF wants to recover costs! Fuel isn't cheap, and neither is a diversion... hopefully he is blacklisted from all QF travel in the future!

Happened to an old boss of mine......magistrate told him to wake up. So agree with you

I betting either one of fluoro brigade or a DYKWIA.:p

Oh Please, let's not generalize. If the reported facts are correct, the perpetrator is someone who can't behave regardless of what they wear, where they work or what their flying status may be. They should be punished appropriately.

I wondered how long it would be before someone came out on the defensive :!:

Hey Hey all in jest! Just look at smiley at the end! Not to nit pick ashleyn, but generalise is spelt with a "s" not a "z" in Australia. Yes I know you probably did a spell check with a yank spell check... but anyway... :)

Where's Hancock??

Oh I think Hancock has probably past 34 years young a while ago... :p

What did the woman who had a flight to NZ turned back get? Can't remember what it was, but it certainly wasn't just a good behaviour bond. Pretty sure she had to pay compo to the airline too. If the reports are accurate, then the gentleman in this case might be wanting to find one of the better lawyers going around.

Heading to NRT at this time of year, surely it's got to be a snowboarder. Of course a skier would never do such a thing.

He blew .300, lit a cigarette in the toilet, cost QF $120000, but still had the gall to ask the magistrate if he could continue his journey to NRT!ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1355865341.749502.jpg

What a tosser. I have no idea how QF will ever recover any money from him but let's hope he is banned for life from Qantas, not just QF but JQ as well, and also gets hit with a hefty fine and either jail or a real community service order that is fully enforced.

Macaskill, a disability pensioner, was given a four-month jail term, wholly suspended, for the charge of offensive behaviour and was convicted and fined $3500 for the assault.

She was also ordered to pay Qantas' costs of returning the flight back to Melbourne, of $18,245.

Qantas has banned Macaskill from its flights for at least 10 years and said the court penalties should send a message to others that the airline and the Australian Federal Police would not tolerate this type of behaviour.

He said the ban applied to any Qantas group aircraft, which included Jetstar and New Zealand-based subsidiary JetConnect.

She was fined $110 for offensive and disorderly behaviour and smoking on board.

Bazzani warned Macaskill that she would likely go to jail if she displayed similar behaviour on any flight in the future.
