According to the almighty Wikipedia, QF have only 8 aircraft on order, all A380's and all have been postponed. Their twelve B747-400's are slated for replacement between 2016-2019. Where is the fleet replacement? The 787-9's have been cancelled and every other aircraft on order (B787-8's and A320neo's) is market for the Jetstar fleet. I'd love to see them order the B777X but that'd be almost an admission that they screwed up by not ordering the B777 years ago, so it's unlikely to happen. So can we expect a future international fleet of purely oversized A380's and undersized A330's?

The view in North America would suggest they are oversized. That view doesn't seem to be shared as much elsewhere.

The fact that Boeing couldn't sell a single 747-8 to their own market is a clear indication of that.

My personal view is that if those North American carriers don't change something real quick smart, it is their airlines, not an A380, that is oversized and doomed.

shrinking to grow - the a380 is a dog for qf on every route except north america, too much capacity and too little profit (e.g. LHR has too much competition driving ticket prices down).

i think we'll see those 380s on order become 350s sooner to replace the 747s

I never thought it would be possible to dislike my own post, but here goes...

Yes, I see a QF which only has A330's and A380's for long haul. The 747's are sitting on borrowed time (sniff sniff)...
Much like they called a truce with VA over oversupply of the market which allowed them to get rid of the B767's, I see them cutting back on the number of international seats available.

They will still have their flagship routes (US / UK routes springs to mind) which they will operate with a limited number of A380's. They will use the A330's on Asia flights, and of course continue with the B737's on TT routes.

I also expect that they will seriously cut back any route which is considered "leisure", effectively handing the route to JQ.

Where they do still want to operate a route under the "Qantas" name I expect to see many more routes handled by subsidiaries (eg "Qantas" no longer operates SYD-AKL despite the "Qantas" branding)

I see it as unlikely that they will expand their current fleet with anything modern, and I suspect that anything new which does get purchased may go under a subsidiary (like the JetConnect model).

Long story short, QF have a lot of baggage, and the more of that baggage they can get rid of the better for the company.

What about SCL and JNB?

A332 EBI will be withdrawn this month and leave the fleet in October.

This will be the last widebody retirement this financial year - with the widebody fleet to consist of 10 x A330-300, 18 x A330-200, 5 x B747-400, 6 x B747-400ER and 12 x A380

QF 24 on sunday BKK-SYD was refurb airplane. IMO, better than CX business seats. Very functional. I liked the spaces for personal items.
