Hi All,

Back again trying to find a way into the Melbourne First Class Lounge! :p

Upon reading the Victorian Government Law about Under 18's being on Licensed premises (Underage patrons on licensed premises - VCGLR) it does say that someone under 18 may stay in the location if they are having a meal.

Now my question is that if I go into the lounge with the intent on having a meal in the 'restaurant' area, does that get around the restrictions? Surprisingly the Emirates lounge in Melbourne will let me enter but I am just not able to request Alcohol.

Thanks,
calmelb

Actually the relevant requirements are:

A person under 18 years of age is not permitted on the licensed premises unless there is a condition listed on the licence approved by the VCGLR, or the young person is:

  • with a responsible adult
  • having a meal

Looks like you need a responsible adult with you. Your only hope might be if federal requirements are different. I believe MEL AP is on Federal land and subject to their rules.

It's an 'OR' I'm pretty sure, which means it would be one or the other.

Fly to Auckland on that EK flight if you are free, in J/Y.
I am on the one on Chrstmas Day, MEL - AKL in F.
I will pull you in.
If you are free.
No strings.
Will be at MEL airport at 5.25am when the first frosted sliding door opens.
And yes, of course I am over 18.

Actually, its not an 'or' You require a responsible adult. The definition of 'responsible' varies. But is generally considered to be a parent/grandparent, legal guardian or spouse. Poochie's offer, whilst great and probably not an issue, might be outside the definition. Difficult to enforce i would think.

Also, given Qantas rules for access to lounges, not just the F lounge, I think you would need to be accompanied by an adult travelling on the same flight? Correct if I'm wrong on this point?

This doesnt really help answer the OPs question....

You don't need to be accompanied by an adult on the same flight, just a OW flight (Before I reached WP my Mum guested me into the F lounge, she was flying CX, I was flying QF).

Damn, I really thought it was an 'or'. Then the only question is why can the EK lounge let me in but not SQ, QF, CX, etc?
