Hi gurus

I am flying with Jestar to HKT soon and am a platinum QFF memeber. Do you know if there is a qantas first dress code?? I am not going to dress up like a total bum but was thinking sport chic; nice runners, polo and shorts- would they let me in??

I'd assume it's the same dress code for all QF lounges, no thongs or singlets etc.

You'll be fine. No dress code.

Great that this thread started as I also have my first chance to try the famed MEL QF F lounge a week from today - can't wait !!
Also doing the half marathon at the melbourne marathon event that same morning - so if i go too hard in the lounge at least i can feel like it's deserved lol

Good luck. And hope you are there in time for a spa treatment!

In my experience dress code is pretty relaxed, as long as it is respectable. As you'd expect for potentially long haul flights a lot of folk dress casually and comfortably.

Sadly according to the staff member at the QF MEL F lounge when I called last week they only open the spa between 8am-11am for QF93 and 8pm-11pm for QF9.
As the flight I am on (EK405) departs at 7pm I have no chance.

Looks like I will have to fly QF ex MEL to get the spa treatment, or, alternatively, fly ex SYD. The EK BKK flight ex SYD might still work as it departs at 6:45pm which is a couple of hours after QF1 so if I get there early (as in fly from MEL at say 11am to ensure alot of F lounge time) then it will likely work.

Those aren't the times I have been quoted (admittedly a few months ago) or experienced myself - though pretty close. I have had treatments as late as 2pm maybe a year ago, and I think I got one when a 18:40 scheduled flight was delayed until 19:50 they got me into the first treatment of the evening which was 18:30. If you were told the times for that day then yep, probably out of luck. But no harm checking on arrival.

I'd be careful with Sydney in mid afternoon. The spa closes 4pm ish (unless QF1 is delayed) and if you arrive in the lounge after 12 you'll struggle to get a slot. Only if you fly QF F do you get a call the day before to reserve a time. EK F doesn't, I gather. I got lucky last month, flying on Cathay's 10pm flight but as QF1 was delayed by 5 hours they kept the spa open and found me a slot at 7pm. Pure luck.

The spa is nice and all but you aren't missing anything really if you don't get an appointment. Much more luxurious spas and treatments at luxury hotels IME.
Of the two SYD is a much nicer space thanks to the living walls but I wouldn't go out of my way or spend hours in transit to snag an appointment at either to be honest.

A nice treat if you get one. Unless they are all taken up by WP's and guests on JQ Flounge runs :p :D

Here's hope the First lounge dress code is on the agenda at the next lounge manager's meeting.

I think the dress code is an issue for revenue F passengers to determine. Not picking on award pax, but without paying F customers there wouldn't be F cabins with award seats. And without F cabins there probably wouldn't be F lounges on the scale of the MEL/SYD lounges, so status pax don't really get a say either.

When people are paying $15k+ for a ticket to JKF or London, I reckon they can wear what they want. It's their lounge.

I thought society had moved past the point where people could do what they wanted as long as they paid enough money. Guess I was wrong. So, if they wanted to wear a mankini (or a c-string) that would be fine according to you? (and the size of the lounge is more about it being a Platinum lounge than a First lounge).

If you were dropping $15k and wanted to wear a mankini into the lounge I'd be chalking that up to eccentricity! But in reality it's unlikely to be a realistic scenario. If an F passenger wanted to wear thongs, or sliders, or as my friend does - wear sweat pants - so be it. It's not my cup of tea, but my friend is clean, quiet, doesn't yell on their phone. And dresses for comfort long haul.

This is not a case of paying money to break the rules (there are none), this is a case of user pays, and the users deciding what's acceptable.

I would have thought QF F was QF F, clearly not !
That's what I thought but no. After some talks with Qantas on my return last year, apparently it is in the too hard basket. Basically once you are on someone else's metal whatever their conditions are apply. Qantas was supposed to be updating their website to make it clear that you didn't get those things when booking F as a codeshare but hadn't last time I looked.

While I don't usually like to quote "the rules", I'm making an exception in this case to clarify that point 10.7 in the Qantas Club Terms and Conditions applies to all Qantas operated lounges.

"Smart, casual dress standards apply as a minimum at all times and entry may be refused if customers do not meet that standard. Bare feet or clothing with offensive images or slogans are not acceptable. In addition, individual lounges may have Club Rules regarding specific items of clothing which are not acceptable. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances."

NB/ "Club Rules" is referring to the Qantas Domestic Lounge Dress Guidelines.

I guess that rules out my mankini then.

:p
