Welcome to AFF Duncan81. It will not make any difference that you are travelling on an award ticket, I believe you will get a telephone call the day before your flight to arrange a spa appointment. Everyone that that is entitled to enter the first lounge can eat in the restaurant.

Just make sure the correct contact details are on the booking ... If no call by early afternoon the day before, call them ...

Hi,
I've done the same last year. It's an amazing experience. (Although my return flight in F on Cathay was even better...)
No difference to a paying customer. Although.... When they called me regarding the Spa treatment the day before the flight, I asked about the complimentary limousine service. They said, I should have called them at least 48h prior to departure. In other words... Make sure, you call them 3 days prior to your flight to get your chauffeur service.
Go for the full Spa treatment- don't be shy. I only had a facial and regretted not having chosen the lot. Compensated on the bubbles and meals though....

enjoy your flight!

Just keep an eye on your seat selection. I think the only 'discrimination' against award tickets is that you can get bumped from your selected seat relatively easily by some high status passenger who decides at some late stage that they want your seat. QF will usually oblige them. There are no bad seats in F, but as it appears there are more than one of you, you might get separated. If you spot it early, you might be able to get re-seated together. The call the day before, from the 'first host' will talk about your seating, as well as take spa appointments.

The dining area in the SYD F lounge gets busy, so arrive early! Not sure if the first Host will take dining appointments (9ie reserve a table).

Curious, what do you mean by "regretted not having chosen the lot" ?
What else were you offered ? IME there is a range of treatments that F passengers can choose from and book the day before. Interested to know how one could choose the lot this way.

IME, the attendant will perform two treatments if they like you. My mother does this regularly. I've never dared to ask. She is generally travelling as a paid F pax.

Interesting, I've never asked for anything other than my booked appointment. I usually have a facial but once in a while a massage.

i asked once and while he didn't say no he skirted around it by saying that orders will be taken at the lounge seats if necessary. I've never had a problem getting a table in Sydney as yet. I guess it could cause a problem if they started taking reservations, as it would be silly to have empty tables when there is quite a demand and turnover is usually fast.

F passengers do get tables reserved in SYD when it's busy.
Happens at F check-in IME. The First Host is contacted from there and has a table reserved for the passengers arrival at the lounge.
I found out about this after asking one of the First Hosts when she telephoned me the day before one of my trips.

Yes. I also found that if it's a party of three of more, such as families, traveling in F they reserve tables in advance without the pax asking.

Hmm - possibly because we were coming from Canberra (and only 2 people ), is why he avoided answering the question? Table would need to be reserved based on time of flight from Canberra and then there are issues with delayed flights etc - I can see it is a bit complicated. Anyway nice to know it can be done.

Some of those "signed" reserved tables are a ruse. We've been seated a few times at reserved tables....

Yes, I've found that the "reserved" signs are more to control seating in the lounge especially with the larger tables. I've also been seated at a reserved table quite a number of times.

As a solo F traveller, its never been offered to me and I've been refused a reservation when in the lounge (ie for 12:30 at 11:30).

Interesting to know.

Yes. We saw several at breakfast the other week. And were seated at one.

If you have an iPhone, download the My Flights app and register your booking reference through it. It will monitor your flights and notify if there are any changes, like seat selection.

Great app.

Missed a phone call the day we flew F from Sydney last week and have only just checked the message. It was the First Host asking what time we planned to arrive at the lounge so he could reserve a table for lunch, so yes tables can be reserved for F passengers.
