I am travelling in J on a 717 to MEL-HBA tomorrow and then HBA-SYD on Sunday.

I have had an email suggesting installing the QF Entertainment app (I'm Android, Mrs jaybeedee is an old iphone).

I like the idea of a play list that I can pick up again on my next flight, but I hate disappointing apps. The reviews on the Android Store seem quite polarised.

Have you used it, did you like it or did you uninstall it straight away ?

Thanks for any advice.

I used it on my ADL-MEL / MEL-HBA J flights last weekend. It's OK; using your own device is MUCH more reliable than the iPads they (sometimes) supply. Take your own headphones too - the ones they supply (in J) are useless.

I've not tried it on my phone, but have on the iPad and it's been quite good (though I use it very rarely to be honest). Certainly better than using the QF iPads as RooFlyer says. Pax around me on recent flights seem happy with the features - allowing quicker returns to last played audio-visual entertainment.

Worth a go.

It's not a perfect app, but if you want to view the streaming content it works perfectly fine on Android, I've never had any issues with connectivity or operation, picture compression rates are probably a bit high for my taste but i guess they potentially have alot of devices to serve. There is only one foible that irritates me about it but i won't prejudice your assessment by saying what it is.

I've used it probably 3 or 4 times and never had a problem.

If you don't install it you can't try it, and you can always delete it later.

I use it most weeks. I find the range of movies to be limited, but there a whole heap of movies added this week. On the flip side change in content also means I have a couple of half watched movies that I've not been able to pick up. I've seen the return to previous show feature, but that hasn't worked on my last couple of flights. not surprising but it doesn't work when they remove content either.

Some of the racer content doesn't seem to be available either. e.g. Amy Schummer stand up.

'Tis true the actual content may vary from route to route and even disappear, but that's not really the app's fault, i read the OP question as being about the app itself rather than the overall experience, content included but granted an esky without beer can be a tad disappointing. I guess if you want guaranteed content you'd take your own, but for me it can be an opportunity to watch something i might not select normally.

I like it and prefer to their iPads and I never have issues on my iPad. I can't understand why you wouldn't download it and use it? If you hate it, hit delete. Costs you nothing.

I hate that we have only byod options now. Even in J it got very boring on CNS to MEL with nothing to do. My tiny phone screen isn't ideal for prolonged viewing. The app works fine i haven't had issues but not ideal if you don't have any large screen to view with.

I use it on on my iPad on the flights it is available and find it a much better viewing experience than Q's ones, but I also have back up material on my iPad, just in case the service is playing up or not available on my flight.

I agree with Medhead above very limited titles. What Also annoys me is he interruptions come thru and stops you from watching. For that reason I am happy to use my own material

As per the sentiment below, why wouldn't someone install the app. Having said that the content is an integral part of the experience of the App, with no content the app is nothing. As such limitations of content are part and parcel of the app experience.

I also note that I said nothing about wanting guaranteed content. The issue I raised was the limited content. Last week I had literally seen every movie available of the App. Many of them on seat back IFE on Qantas international flights in 2015. My international QF flight in May 2016 showed that the content on Q streaming was, mainly, not still offered on the seat back IFE. As for disappearing content, my observation is that Q-streaming has the most limited range of content, presumably because of "space" issues. This means that content can't be held as long and hence disappears. Those disappearances have been mid-month, i.e. out of cycle with the usual Qantas start of month change over. So they are cycling the Q-streaming content on a shorter cycle.

All of this is information to help people decide about downloading the app or just sticking to their own content.

I also get it randomly stopping without interruption. I assume it's something to do with streaming limitations.

Qantas were providing iPads to business on my 737 flight this morning.

The app is well worth it.....content is a whole other issue. Best bit about the app in my opinion is that when you touch the screen to do anything (pause, volume etc) the top of the screen tells you how far into the flight you are and how long to go. Beats having to go to flight path.

Cheers

Has anyone encountered the DRM error with this app which makes the app unusable? Seems to be a common problem according to Google Play reviews. Disappointing that Qantas isn't doing anything to fix it. Tiger's entertainment app worked perfectly for me so it's a shame that the Qantas version is unusable.

The range of content is wider that that on the in-seat AVOD equipped aircraft as well, which is a plus.

I don't get the premise of your question - the app is free. Just download it. That way you always have the option to use it if you want.

For me, I rarely use it as I usually have my own media on my iPad.

Has anyone had problems with this app not opening on a Samsung s7 or s8? It won't open for me on either despite having used it previously on the s7. have tried reinstalling but same problem. Advised qf customer relations as part of a broader set of problems on a recent trip but the rep has ignored my requests for a contact for tech help. I've now raised the issue through Facebook chat and awaiting further advice. At least they've said they'll look into it unlike the customer relations rep. And I'm WP. Not good enough. I must have asked her at least 4 times. (This was all via email, haven't been able to reach her by phone. Not that it should matter)

I haven't.
But what device are you trying to use?

I suspect QF has a check against rooted tablets/phones etc

I was using a Samsung S8. I think the problem was plane specific. The app worked ok on my subsequent flights.

I would, well have. I like options, so I've got it installed on my iPhone (never used) and iPad Pro (have used) and have used the enterainment 'portal' on my laptop. If there's no seatback IFE, then I prefer to use my device to a QF supplied iPad.
