Hi all,

I am 90 sc short of reaching silver for the first time. I have managed to get a couple of weeks off over christmas/new years so the wife and I are going to head to the Gold Coast for a week to visit some friends. I am looking at flights on a MASA on the 30th/31st December and can do 2pax one way flights ADL-BRIS for 48,000 plus cash in business earning me 60x2 SC (120) or ADL-MEL-BRIS (economy) for 36,000 plus cash for 50 SC (does a MASA book into discount economy or economy thus earning me dsc?). My year resets on Jan 1 so any extra SC I earn above the 90 needed are pretty much wasted. I currently have 75,000 ish points. Unless someone can come up with a magic solution that will get myself and the wife to Brisbane/Gold Coast for less than 75,000 points and $500 cash and earn me 490sc I am thinking of just doing the ADL-MEL-BRIS in economy and saving points for next year or the return flight.

I have a targeted DSC offer not the generic one that Qantas came out with a few days ago. I actually got a 1.5sc offer and then a couple weeks later the dsc offer! Hopefully I haven't had all my luck used up in one month with these. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi bladeau1981, and how do you expect to use the minimal benefits of Silver? Not really worth the effort unless you can get to at least Gold.

If you really do want to get to PS then I guess you'll get some good ideas in the hours ahead.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks Hvr. I was also considering the value of silver. I am doing the flights anyway, it isn't going to cost me much extra to earn the extra SC over not and earning them so pretty much just need to work out whether I go Business ADL-BRIS or Economy ADL-MEL-BRIS and save myself 12000 points. Just not sure whether this counts as Economy or Discount Economy. I guess the 2 x QP vouchers will come in handy for my wife when she goes on a girls weekend or something and the Q-Tags would be good to have. I have a paid Qantas Club membership so most of the other so called silver benefits I already have. If I can somehow get to gold with 75000 points and around $500-600 cash getting myself and my wife to either Brisbane or Gold Coast then I would be extremely happy. I would also need to get us home I guess in that budget, although I have enough points for a single pax OOL-ADL on Virgin so that would get one of us home.

Go on do the crazy and go all in for gold. Firstly if your partner isn't in the QFF program sign her up for free here and buy a $500 voucher which will earn a lazy 5000 points: https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do...mid=NEW_20131202_Christmas_Gift_Voucher_NonFF

Then use your virgin flight to get to OOL on a Thursday and overnight at your friends. Head to BNE early the next day and do the KTA run which should route via MEL. If you don't want to overnight in KTA then your return flight will be KTA-PER-ADL-BNE. Cost is approx. 72000+$607 co-pay. You'll pick up 9785 points solely as bronze; more when you hit ps +2x400sc's and 2x8000 loyalty bonus. That should put you on 1210 sc's (painfully close to WP) with roughly 25785 points+1000 minimum points transferred from your partners QFF account. When you've pulled all that off you can brag about it to your friends but they won't care. You will also need to procure a vehicle by any means necessary and/or hitch hike home.

Puppysparkes that is a good one but I think the chances of being allowed to do that are between 0 and 0. My window of travel is Dec29-31 to leave and return around the 5th. Perhaps I just get to Bris/GC cheapest tix possible and try for a status run on the way home. The misses likes the Qantas Clubs when we travel together so she might let me do it if it won't cost me much more than renewing for next year.

Does the Qantas Christmas DSC promo that you can travel in Jan with include any seat awards flights?

Edit: Apologies I initially got the routing wrong.

That seems to be the case: ^ An eligible flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Qantas domestic Australia flight with a QF flight number on the ticket where Status credits are normally earned. If you qualify for multiple offers, the offer first-registered for will be applied to each individual qualifying segment. Bonus Status credits may take up to 6 weeks after completion of your travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

ADL-BNE is the same cost as ADL TSV as a JASA in points, but nets 240 SC under a double one way ;)

Check out a status run SYD/BNE/DRW return in J for big points.

Lime wood I think that status run sounds like a good one for next year. Will save up my points and go visit some family on my own! Throw in a couple of work trips and a holiday or 2 with the wife I can see Gold easily achievable next year. Should have gone harder at it this year.

As a silver apart from the one measly QC pass you at least get bonus points for flying I believe.
Silver to Gold should be pretty easy if on a DSC though. That's what I did last year.

It is possible to do the BNE KTA run in 24 hours on selected dates. OP pm if you want confirmed dates.

To OP: Do you have lots of SCs already this year? I would consider holding the status run until 1Jan, so that if you make it to silver it will last 2 years. Who knows if in that time you can make it to gold too...

Im going bronze to gold next month, as I was already very close to silver.

Unfortunately I have no time off before Christmas and then taking this one trip so no status run. Have booked adl-bne in J on an masa which will take me to silver. I will then focus on restocking my points as quick as possible for a status run next year. Is the single qp pass for 2pax or just 1? My wife likes coming to the qp with me when we fly together and she would like to take a friend with her when they go away on a shopping trip next.

Wow so generous of Qantas. Pretty pointless then. Oh well I still get the Q-tags I guess...
