I had the lamb, it was very tender and a very pleasant meal. My daughter had pre-ordered a vegetarian meal... what an odd combination: potatoes and cauliflower with a spinach and rice combo. She said it tasted ok. Her starter was a tomato and boconccini salad (thank goodness they’ve ditched the bean salad starter).

Things started a bit rocky... Are we flying to BNE? (we also had to prepare for our descent into SYD as well)

Menu, been in service since September...
20171223_115921.jpg

For the starter, the rillette to baguette ratio was just wrong....
20171223_131914.jpg

For the main, the mushrooms were so rubbery they were almost inedible. Sauce was a little tame but nice at least...
20171223_133024.jpg

How about putting the wine in the glass (missed on two occasions)! Only one Cab Sauv on offer versus three reds when flying 'elsewhere'...
20171223_141039.jpg

Dessert (lucky to get it as it was the last one with half of J to go)...
20171223_142430.jpg

Another thing to note is that the PER Dom J lounge does not serve any hot food (excluding soup) between 10:30 and midday. So you are left with the same food selection as the QP during this time. You also have to chase down a staff member to even get a soft drink as there is no self service facilities and the bar is 'closed' until midday.

Looks OK to me !!

I like the new wine glasses. One would have thought they'd be easier to target.

I prefer these ones...
20170806_173456.jpg

Particularly when filled with pre departure champagne (or now the QF London lounge sparkling).

Most likely less breakages now QF have gone stemless...

Menu...
20171208_185157.jpg

Where are the warmed nuts in a ramekin (not on QFi it would appear)...
20171208_195435.jpg

Starter and the return of the farro (and that is not a good thing)...
20171208_204536.jpg

Main, pork was tender but dried out (poor preparation/storage)...
20171208_210238.jpg

Dessert (cake) is not pictured as it was finally served about 90 minutes after the main (or more than four hours after departure on a six and a half hour flight) and I had lost all interest and patience at that stage.

'Breakfast' was then served about 100 minutes later (not sampled)...

Dessert (served in a reasonable time after the main this time, only a 35 minute wait)...20171210_204119.jpg

QF786 BNE-CNS 1935 departure 24/11

Choices
Korean spicy chicken with cabbage
Caesar salad

Wine was Shaw and Smith savignon blanc. Was given the remainder of a 3/4 full bottle, probably as a platinum one.

Pleb Status - and others - thank you for posting in this thread. I rarely fly J or F (ie, never).

This thread gives me an insight into what I 'might' be missing out on.
Food = 'meh
After doing some long haul Y, seat/lay flat is more important than anything

CBR-MEL QF815.

This was offered by the crew as "lunch" but officially it's a "refreshment" on the 14:15 departure.

It must be the cheapest J-class main course I have ever seen.

There was no choice. There was no bread. At least there were drinks.

I'd say the food value is around $1.00 for the salad course offered. On a
route with an $800.00+ J-class fare...

You received the equivalent of one whole cherry tomato. They could of spread that over two meals if they tried...

See my posts on pages 93 and 94 of this thread. I got the exact same at actual lunchtime (13:15 CBR departure for MEL). So at least you can be comforted that you didn't miss out on proper lunch.

The J meals on this sector are a disgrace. I give negative (but polite) feedback to the crew every time. Probably does me more harm than good. Though they always apologise. Suppose management don't care if staff do the apologising but suckers still pay.

Yes that's a pretty average meal for a business flight.

Unless there's real competition, I don't think Qantas need to do too much. As you said, people will still pay for the fare.

I flew this sector a couple of weeks ago. The CSM apologised before giving me my "meal" which was also some sort of Quinoa salad I seem to remember.

I had the wine and the chocolate only. Pretty disgraceful IMHO.

The only good thing about such simple fare is it is taken away quickly, leaving more time for wine. CSMs on this route in my experience use the time well with regular refills offered, well into descent.

Agreed - I have the same experience with the CSM's as well.
