Qantas Business Class meals & menus

SYD-ADL 18:40 flight (a few days ago). Options were chicken with fried rice or roast lamb salad. Having had the chicken on the inbound flight to SYD (see upthread) -- which the CSM didn't think possible until I mentioned the drawback of a double-catered flight -- I went for the lamb. It was very nice.

Great service from the CSM (Julienne I think) and Valeska. Friendly and attentive. Good flight.
 
Didn’t take any photos but QF144 AKL to SYD was pretty dire today. Entree was cauliflower soup or tuna tartare (which was good) but the main was a Korean beef salad, a pork cutlet or a halloumi dish. The pork was virtually inedible- so tough and dry. In fact the FA asked why I hadn’t eaten much of it and offered the beef salad. The cheese was a lump of cheddar and an unripe Brie or similar. Service was very slow even though the FAs seemed to be rushing around. It was the 787 and J looked full and think Y was similar so I wonder if they just didn’t have enough staff to manage efficiently. The 330 over yesterday was much more pleasant.

You miss out on the nice NZ cheese on these flights given the catering is out of SYD. Were the meal carts staffed by two FAs or just one? It's quite slow even with two but a killer with one. As I mentioned upthread, I personally think this cabin is understaffed at mealtimes.

I agree - had the roast lamb salad on QF839 DRW-MEL on Friday. Was one of the tastier meals I have had on board recently.

From memory, just the one FA on the meal cart - there was another who seemed to be off and away more than she was there.
The flight was Sydney on Saturday had a nice soft goats cheese with the mandatory lump of cheddar but at least a couple of nice fresh dates, Also offered port or sticky with the cheese on that flight. I asked for a scotch and it was delivered straight away. Nothing offered on QF144 - though as I still had some red wine I didn't ask for anything either. FAs seemed much more proactive on that first flight though.
Pretty unimpressed with the Dreamliner on this route. Agree seemed to be a lack of staff - or they were all servicing the back of the bus. :):D
And I noticed that Korean salad turned up on the SYD - CBR leg later though I didn't bother.

I haven't actually checked but I'm guessing there will be a lot of down-gauging to 737s on this route for a while. I hope they can the 787s altogether.
Aside from the privacy and extra legroom of 1A and 1K, I'm not at all a fan of the QF 787s - soft or hard product.
 
Couple more also from a few days ago now.
ADL-MEL approx 11am flight. Options were the healthy bowl which seemed to have different ingredients again to other bowls I've had (so kudos to QF for that) or chicken and tarragon sausage rolls. Having had a little too much to drink the night before, the sausage rolls - which I'd normally be a bit annoyed at for a J offering - hit the spot perfectly. Maybe they knew I was flying ;). (In my defence I did have a quick, healthy breakfast in the hotel of fruit and muesli.)

Then MEL-CBR around 14:30 flight also on the 737. Only option was chicken salad. A cutback version of the Waldorf salad I posted upthread.

Nice, but I don't see why it has to be so small. There is enough time to eat a proper-sized dish.

Cabin had about 7 pax. Only two of us ate. CSM had spare time, even accounting for a delay in extinguishing the seatbelt sign on account of heavy cloud ex-MEL. Plenty of time for wine top-up and the crew were happy to wait until the last possible minute to clear drinks away.

Overall, I was pleased with the quantity and quality of the supper on the short flight back to SYD. The cake was great with the cream and lychees (not strawberries as per the menu).

Oh wow- some people are still flying. They could serve me that boring old Pithivier any day right now and I’d eagerly gobble up every bite of it.

Luckily, I still got plenty Champagne in the fridge at least. Popp!

My employer has held back booking for obvious reasons .
My question is
is it worthwhile travelling in business ?
For me , a roomier seat is important but also a good meal and wines really count for me for this kind of over 4 hour flight.
So, please report any flights that you travel on in the near future - I would like to know how downgraded J class will become .
If business class is not much better than economy ( and I get a good choice of seats) I can't see its worthwhile to travel up front.
Looking forward to reports from posters who actually get to fly in J domestically in the near future.

Agree - will be great to get some feedback.
If QF is allowed to fill every seat on a plane (which I seriously doubt for some time; it's another pressure Govt for subsidy tactic) then there would be some advantage to J on an A330 for sure; even a 737.

probably the worst steak I’ve ever had on any aircraft in any class. And, AND, the male FA argued with me that it was cooked correctly.

I agree something is always cooked to taste and to be frank who are QANTAS staff to tell me how to cook. You should never let other people tell you what you like, that is BS. We should always eat you like not what we like not what other people think.
 
The plating and options look much better for that EK meal - apart from the last photo. Sauce too runny and too much fat floating in it for my liking. But heh, better than what I serve up from my galley every night :eek:
 
Yes too much liquid. Don't forget airlines suffer from turbulence so given we are not at the dinner table thought needs to go into this. Some tend to forget that with meal creation.

Also breadrolls that flake everywhere. Never understood why airlines serve those in favour of those that are dense and don't drop crumbs? A cleaners dream......

Maybe I should be an airline accountant ?

A calzone with option of water or OJ. Other option was a salad of some sort.

Still nothing but a ‘snack’ and basic beverages on VA, but looking forward to them coming back.
