Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Hopefully final flight for 2019. SYD-CBR 17:35 departure. Chicken salad which was actually quite nice.

CSM just about managed to serve everyone in a half-full J cabin after a slightly delayed extinguishing of the seatbelt sign on departure and early 'prepare the cabin' call (due to all the terrible and sad smoke in the regions due to the fires). Happily granted a wine top-up after descent.

Wasn’t sure what to expect on a 4pm MEL-ADL flight, but was pleasantly surprised. Three options offered. Cauliflower soup with roll, cheese box, or lamb with mint sausage rolls. The latter for me.

Tasty and reasonably well prepared. Good crew with excellent service for a short flight. Helped by being upgraded and having a vacant 1C courtesy of P1 team.

SYD-AKL 0740 departure on the 787.
Menus were placed on the seats but they were incorrect and collected shortly after takeoff. Staff were excellent on this flight with constant beverage top ups and great attention.
Breakfast options were a spinach and chicken dish, some type of eggs or a fruit plate with yoghurt. I went for the fruit plate and foundit quite good. The muffins were excellent and the fruit was juicy and had plenty of flavour. Service was prompt and completed in enough time for me to grab a quick nap. Couldn’t really get comfortable though and didn’t like the seats at all.

Dukkha crusted Pumpkin and Freekeh salad. One piece of pumpkin so tough I couldn’t eat it. Shaw and Smith SB or Swings and Roundabouts Cab Sav. I thought he said Duck and Pumpkin salad and I spent a long time looking for the duck

QF736 ADL SYD today. Service was good without being exceptional.

ADL-SYD 2010 departure.
Very tasty chicken with a tomato based sauce. One of the better QF domestic meals I’ve had and capped by excellent service from the cheerful staff. The alcohol flowed very freely which topped it off

The image of this meal makes me hungry each time I scroll past it. Looks soooo good!

Enjoyed this salad on board as well. CSM was a bit hesitant explaining what the ingredients were. Helped her out “assisting” with the salad’s description. Later in the flight was thanked for the assistance as the catering notes did not fully describe the meal.

QF108, PEK-SYD, 11.45pm departure, 2.10pm arrival (scheduled), A330.

Champagne or sparkling water on boarding, amenity kit and menus on seat, plus water bottle. Full cabin, I counted three empty seats. Pyjamas were piled up in row 1 and a 'take one yourself' affair, overall good and friendly service.

When handing over the completed breakfast order form, I asked whether I could have dinner upon waking up, as I wanted to go straight to sleep, however I was told that this was not possible, the best she could do was to hold a cheese platter for me. I briefly considered telling her that QR offers 'dine any time' but decided against it, so upon waking eight hours later - bliss - I got the cheese, as it turns out only one hour prior to breakfast being served. These were the menus, the cheese selection turned out to be one soft (camembert?) and one hard (cheddar?) cheese with lots of crackers, some grapes and one date:

I went with croissant and pancakes, reasonably sized meal but I admit I left the plane quite hungry upon departure:

Nothing wrong with the food but I wonder whether Qantas might change the concept of their food offerings, as I cannot imagine many people have dinner at that time of day, so why not a small snack and then breakfast or even a full lunch instead, after all arrival is 2.10pm. Final comment, the CX lounge was well below par, food selection atrocious, DIY cup noodles and chicken nuggets were the only hot options.

I've done a few BNE trips over the past month or so and it seems afternoon refreshments have been "enhanced" a little bit to include an option of "small savoury pies" (and every time offered the crew have hilighted "small"). Other options being the usual soup variation and the cheese box.

Honestly I've changed my habit and hardly eat anything on these shorter domestic flights (prefer to eat more in lounge or elsewhere) - a drink or two and that's about it, so have not actually sampled these small pies, but they did look small. Having said that on one flight had a couple of UM's sitting in J (sisters I think) who gobbled them up happily. I guess party pies are still popular :D

I had three flights now in total when crew had far too many of those so they offered them to everyone prior to landing, even if you had the soup or cheese beforehand.

Now, in this combination together, I always found it a perfectly sufficient meal for that time of day. But on its own? Ridiculously tiny.

The small pies reminded me of the QF NZ domestic flights when you had a choice of an apple or a mini pie. That was over 11 years ago.:(

SYD-AKL, Monday 20th January 2020, "lunch" service on A330-300:
Given that Qantas food can often be rather underwhelming, I came onto the plane thoroughly pre-stuffed in the First lounge which was, as always, brilliant. The crew was very pro-active and super friendly without losing the professionalism that Qantas is known for. I was offered the usual pre-flight drinks and selected a glass of the delicious Duval Leroy champagne, shortly followed by a cheeky top up. They also handed out individual bottles of icy cold water which doesn't happen on all flights but was a very welcome refreshment.

Food orders were only taken post take off and the menu was indeed one that I hadn't come across yet which is a feat given it was first out in September and some of those menus I've seen at least three times by now. So, a very pleasant surprise:

While more than one option was tempting on this particular menu, I selected the soup and then the Calzone. Calzones on Qantas are always super yumm so I knew I'd have a winner there. I asked politely whether they had enough soup to serve me the large bowl plus the main and they happily obliged. Lucky they did because the soup not only smelled devine, it was also really really tasty. One of the first airplane soups ever that really needed neither salt not pepper as it just had the right amount of spice already in it:

I decided to stick to the champagne for the reminder of the flight and it was a good decision. The crew was really excellent and kept filling my glass up until the very end of the flight when I asked to finish off with a shot of Glenlivet.

The main was as tasty as I had expected, especially that pesto had lots of intense flavors so was perfect for the airplane. What that silly one lone leaf of lettuce was doing on my plate I could not figure out but other than that, it was an excellent meal:

All in all a really good Qantas flight. Great crew, tasty food and lots of glasses of excellent champagne. Wish they were all like this!

I had the beef a couple weeks ago...dry as!!

Hey everyone, I'm on the QF157 MEL-AKL this weekend and wondering what the menu would look like?

I've been on this flight before, but I've always pre-ordered my meals to avoid any disappointments. I'm a "Strict Indian Veg", that's what I usually select. But I'm not going to pre-order and see what I end up with.

I had a chat with the Premium CC and they mentioned that there would defo be a veg option on the menu ...

What do you folks think?

If anyone's wondering why I'm not pre-ordering this time - every time I pre-order, I look at the menu on-board and it seem to have better options that what I'm given as part of my pre-order .. so I'm going to wing it this time and see if I end up with something interesting ....

Hey everyone, I'm on the QF157 MEL-AKL this weekend and wondering what the menu would look like?

It will be one of the four Australia-NZ menus currently on rotation. If you scroll up a bit in this thread and look at my posts, you will see at least three of the most recent ones. They only change twice a year and last swap was September so any of those are still in use. They also don't differ between cities so it doesn't matter whether Sydney, Melbourne or Brissy and likewise whether Aucks, Wellington or Christchurch.

If I were you, I'd rather not risk it and pre-order. On my flight this week Monday (just a few posts up), the only vegetarian option would have been the soup (which was fine but you'd probably get something more substantial if you pre-ordered).

Just boarded a SYD-ADL and all J seats have bottled water on the tray tables. It’s a full flight for the long weekend so probably helps save a few minutes. Crew having to cope with lots of carry on and a finite amount of storage for said carry on.
