Mel-bne evening flight last Friday... PDB:

What is going on QF? Is this another enhancement? No more glasses before departure?

Main was choice between “hot pork or chicken salad”... I went with the pork:

Was edible. Bread was cold... preferred when the warmed it up a bit. Again, no water offered, but Shiraz was ok.

Service pretty lacking on this flight. Can’t remember the last time I pressed a call button but I had to this flight!

One under the bread...

Lol... sorry, I do apologise. That was meant to be a little bit tongue in cheek.

The strange thing about the water bottles is that on some flights, even when they've had glasses of water for PDB on the tray, they've asked if I would prefer a bottle instead. I guess that saves them having to refill glasses with water. On my last flight, we had both a glass of water for PDB, and the CSM then walking through the cabin offering bottles of water before landing (on a 50-minute MEL-SYD no less).

I believe sometime in the eighties. Most of mum's trips were then sometime

I can't imagine that menu is from the eighties .... my first big trip was a family holiday to London in 1975 as a 7 year old .... I don't recall anything that flash.

I hate the bottles of water if sitting in row 1. Always hand it in and ask for a glass instead. Never been refused, even if I'm among the last to board. Used to be QF Link but yes seems to have become more common on QF mainline.

QF 10 PER-MEL flight a couple of weeks back. Classed as international and I was transiting in MEL to AKL so was able to access the international lounge.

Forgot to snap the menu. Food was described as lunch, despite 3pm departure and close to 9pm arrival. Was a bit disappointed that the menu offered only one dish plus dessert. Options were soup, seared tuna nicoise, crumbed chicken roll, pork chop, and a grain salad. A deliberately light menu? Perhaps tailoring more for pax coming from LHR.

PDB included champagne, with top-ups offered twice. Meal order taken after take-off. No drink offered (nor a drinks cart) - but having learned my lessons on QF recently I ordered a drink at the same time 'as soon as you are free'. The FA popped back to the galley immediately and ordered the drink. Was brought to me in a couple of minutes.

I asked for the tuna, but also for a cup of soup if there was enough available. Got an immediate "I'm sure we'll have enough". And indeed they did:

Spicy Thai coconut soup. Delicious and a generous serve.

Tuna was excellent. Only disappointment was the anchovies were in the dressing and not whole fillets. Still a nice, fresh dish.

Ice cream was some lemon shortbread flavour (???) so went with the reliable if unspectacular cheese.

Good crew. Professional and friendly. Good space and privacy in seat 1K. Though I found it a little less comfortable than the A330 seats, and the touchscreen response was quite slow. But at least there was music on a QF trans-con flight!

Nice experience.

QF is really taking the piss now hey...??

Trying to find something decent to eat before the flight is the way to go l think.

To be fair I ate all I wanted onboard. But an international J flight of 3 hours should offer a starter and main.

I was not at all impressed with the PER international lounge. Staff were a bit snooty. The food was woeful. Grill your own sandwiches the only hot buffet option. Three people near me ordered gourmet sausages in bread rolls from the kitchen. All took one bite and put it down in disgust. In future I'll stay in the domestic J lounge for the pizza.

The space was good though. Comfortable and airy. Great bathrooms. And of course close to the gate.

Last week Syd to Mel, duck dumplings with a chilli sauce and bok choi, with the Koko Black vanilla nougat (dark) chocolate. Very tasty and quite generous serve

Today, Mel to Syd, baked lamb shoulder with roasted chats and peas. It was a casserole but very tasty and again quite generous and Koko Black caramelised coconut (milk) chocolate.

QF 529 Brisbane to Sydney January 20, 2019
Business Class

Pre-takeoff beverage - a choice of a glass of still or sparkling water

Lunch refreshment - choice of Roast chicken with tomato sauce and rice like pasta Or Pea and Mint Soup with sliced breads

So no glass of bubbly now for PD or was this just a one off?

First time in, so not a great sample size. It was noted by the staff that I was coming from the domestic lounge, zero recognition as a P1 and certainly no offer of champers or extra service. Not that I wanted any of it, but was a ho-hum experience for me.
