Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I must admit I am a little bemused with the pre-depart drink thing.

I write this knowing that every situation is different, connecting flights, lack of time etc (and the fact that SOME crews are handing bottled water out in lieu of PDB)

but really on a MEL-SYD or SYD-BNE or other shortish flight is this really such a big deal? I mean bring back the days when you got a semi interesting juice offering please rather than water or sparkling.. water... or heck some tart tasting bubbles might be nice, but really... I dunno but I usually find a few minutes pre flight to duck in to the lounge and grab a coffee or juice or whathaveyou so PDB don't bother me so much.

yes, it's something they had that is mostly* gone but I dunno.. is it such a huge deal? Death by 1000 cuts huh?

(* except crews who do hand out the little bottles).

I have two QF flights tomorrow I shall keep note of what happens, :)

I think that’s what it seems to be.
PB still only enforced when they feel like it
PDB removed
J loo not guarded from the ruffians
No spirits

Just all “little” things but added up together it becomes quite a big issue IMO
You have to wonder what is next on the list of enhancements
 
Lucky you weren't on QF486 MEL/SYD last night (Friday 11/2). Someone forgot to order the catering so there was nothing for anyone in J or Y. The crew did manage to find a packet of pretzels and a plastic cup of water for J pax.
Unlucky for me too in J. What a joke! Had bid and won an upgrade for wife's 30th....very disappointed
 
These days the main benefit of domestic J seems to be a better seat and that's about it.

It truly is the little things that make the experience. Take QR J for example. They do the little things so well which just makes it magical.

Don't tell anyone at Qantas but looking over to the European market might give you an idea- no one REALLY needs this operational inflexibility of different seats in the first couple of rows do they? Just take the Ryanair configuration, chuck a plastic table or a "This seats stays free for our VIP guest" sign on the middle seat to keep it empty and voila, there's your "Short Haul Club class" :oops: :mad: 😩

Which is why I’ve often wondered why JQ dont so something like that domestically On their A320 fleet.
 
You know, if I paid for 100% of my J flights via points upgrades, I don't think I'd have an issue with ad-hoc PDB ... however, when you're paying sweet AUD cashola for J, you expect the full offering to be provided - hence an earlier post, well done Jayne - absolutely nailing domestic J, without fail ... if you knew me, you would know absolutely how much it pains me to not provide consistent praise to QF.
 
re the "fill flask in lounge, make mixed drink onboard" idea ....

In theory one is not supposed to consume their own alcohol on board an aircraft but that given by the crew (RSA and all).. In practice the intent has more been about people buying duty free scotch before a long haul and going nuts on board I guess rather than a hip flask of spirits for a J G&T (and the need to do this is sad on so many levels) but technically it's a no no. Given the lack of available spirits this is probably why the crew let it slide if it was just one or two drinks worth rather than large scale consumption. it's a risky thing though tbh.

I believe the discussion re self pour is in relation to domestic business class.
Thank you for that. Flying out in 9 days on QF9 and there is very limited information re: food & beverages we will have access to.

Return journey is from Rome on Emirates and via their app I’ve already picked my meals and lined up my entertainment.

Pre-departure information around this through Qantas is very limited.
 
SYD-MEL early evening

Nice flight starting with an unusual boarding of J only...Not SG, WP P1 just J but was a A330

Meal was butter chicken or salad with Chapel Hill Shiraz or Alkoomi Sav Blanc

Meal and wine were very enjoyable and pleased to see some new rotations on this route.

QF466 MEL-SYD 4:30pm departure

Cornish pastie with mashed sweet potato, or prosciutto "salad" with charred corn, rice and vinaigrette

Prosciutto option was alright, better than the Cornish pastie going off the last time I tried it. The salad was quite popular and had run out by Row 5.

Beers were 150 Lashes and Little Creatures Pacific Ale
Wines were Wicks Estate Shiraz and Risky Business Riesling
