Hi Guys

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this curly problem I have with a Qantas credit, very similar to this thread:-

Qantas Award Credit Card Refund Advice Warning

I have a credit with Qantas for around $2200, of which I'll lose $600 as per the fare rules if I cancel and request a refund. As per the previous thread I no longer have the credit card I used to book the flight, this was cancelled around 6 months ago. What makes matters more tricky is I no longer live in Australia and won't be back for several years. I'm not sure of their current policy re Stat Decs, but this seems kinda irrelevant as I'm not in Australia and as far as I'm aware its impossible to get one outside Australia anyway.

I spoke to a consultant today who stated that the money would go back to the original card no matter what and all I had to do was get in touch with the original bank and they could send me a cheque (or something). As I no longer have any Aussie bank accounts I'm not sure what I could do with a cheque :)

So it seems I'm stuck. I could really do with the $1600 back but it looks like my only option is to keep booking a flight when the credit is due to run out, then cancel the flight back to another credit for another 12 months until i return to Australia and can finally use the credit. Anyone have any thoughts on any other resolutions?

Many thanks

BG

Could the bank which originally issued you the card send you an international bank transfer to your overseas bank account?

I have first hand experience that QF WILL refund to a different card with a statutory declaration.

Getting the form is not an issue. The WA one is at http://www.courts.dotag.wa.gov.au/_files/Stat_dec.pdf

Whether or not it can be legally signed outside of the country/state is another question.

On all other occasions where this has been an issue, I have still had some sort of account at the same bank as the old card so I just called up and got the money transfered over.

I just had a QF refund to a card I had cancelled and HSBC bank transferred to a my account at another bank.

just some personal experience which hopefully helps, We applied for Australian Visas for the in laws last year, which required certified copies of documents. We were able to find JPs in their country (Thailand) to do the certifying. I can't remember exactly how i found them but i believe i searched either through google or immigration website and a list came up. Worst case the Oz embassy may be able to do it.

I had around $2,000 in reward taxes to get refunded. Had no accounts with the original bank (ANZ) and the refund came through quickly. It was simple to get transferred to another bank account.

As @grussellt say, I reckon an international transfer would be the way to go. Probably simpler than the stat dec route with qantas.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Many thanks everyone for your input, good to know that it's possible with other banks..
