One would think this would be a simple task.
You receive an email advising that your annual membership is about to expire, in the email it states your renewal costs and that failing to renew on or before the due date may result in renewal costs exceeding the cost of your current renewal offer.
You click the link with Qantas points earning CC in hard and are directed to the renewal page where you enter your membership details.
Simple right?
Until then you are asked for a corporate scheme number???
And the cost???
Ummm hello Qantas, you offered me the renewal for $400 (the cost? I tried inputting $1 and it didn't work)
And you signed me up under the ANZ black Qantas Club offer (I guess the corporate scheme?)
Luckily I have till 7pm tomorrow night (Sat) to finalize the renewal.

How about next time email me with a quick note stating "if you would like to renew your membership please call 131131"

From what I have been told over the phone when renewing my QC, there appears to be a grace period of at least 2 weeks. So you can call a few days after your renewal date to pay at the special rate.

You are correct, there normally is a grace period of about 2 weeks, and you get a letter in the mail stating this to remind you to renew.

From my experience the renewal experience is as simple as it could possibly be.

Interesting, I never received any correspondence via mail, only the email.
In my case the only way to renew was over the phone which was not offered in the email only an online renewal link.
No mention of a grace period.

"To ensure you're eligible for the rate quoted you must renew before the expiry date. If your Qantas Club membership is not renewed before the expiry date, the rate quoted in this renewal notification may increase and a joining fee may apply when the membership is reactivated."

Sounds like you may have joined up under your employers discount scheme and then left them and therefore don't have the corp number.

Some Credit Cards have deals that let you join the QANTAS Club for significantly less than you would be able to otherwise. Not sure if those deals would work if you have a recently expired membership though.

The OP did say that they joined using the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black scheme
True - though was it a one year sign on perhaps? But then again the OP did say they were offered renewal at the corporate rate. Sounds like a phone call is needed to sort it out. Agreed it would be very annoying.

And the description of the benefit on the ANZ website isn't the clearest

Offers are only available to ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cardholders who are Australian residents and who purchase Qantas Club membership using their ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card. Offers are non-transferable and are not available in conjunction with any other offers or discounts. No discounts are available in respect of fees already paid. $475 saving in the first year is based upon a joining fee waiver and a discount to the standard one-year individual membership rate. The joining fee waiver is for a new one year individual Qantas Club membership purchased using an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card by contacting the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre on 13 11 31. Quoted joining fee savings are based on the joining fee for an individual Qantas Club membership application by an Australian resident. Different rates may be available for those with access to the Qantas Club Corporate scheme. The membership fee offer is for a one year individual Qantas Club membership which is purchased or renewed using an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card by contacting the Qantas Service Centre. Quoted membership fee savings are based on the difference between the published corporate membership rate and the fee applicable to an individual Qantas Club membership held by an Australian resident. Only one joining fee waiver, and one membership fee discount per year, are available per cardholder. Qantas Club membership is subject to approval by Qantas and to the terms and conditions of The Qantas Club, available at qantas.com/qantasclub.

Seems like just the first year then. different companies can get different rates of course based on the numbers of people and spend.

Mostly you just get the joining fee waived and a small amount off which may mean the hassle of a corp sign up might only save you $50.

Of course every dollar not spent now means a dollar towards the next plane ticket but if you spend more than say 2 hours sorting it would be smarter to pay the regular rate.

As a matter of interest, does anyone know the cost of current annual/lifetime membership? My husband bought me a lifetime one when I turned 50 - about 15 years ago - I have a vague idea it was around $500 then, seemed a bargain at the time

Lifetime membership isn't available anymore (though Lifetime Gold Frequent Flyer Status would provide all the benefits of QANTAS Club membership plus more). You can see the cost of membership on qantas.com

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

$500 sounds FAR too cheap, even 15 years ago. Although I could be wrong.

bought them for my son and daughter. Dr FM's was bought in May 2004 and it was $4,200 - I still have the receipt.... Master FM was 2 years later and maybe a little more, but not much.

I would suggest scanning that in. Hard copy receipts can fade a bit over time.
I should :). I have "folders" for the kids - I kept all sorts of things from when they were babies on, you know tags in hospital and drawings and all their certificates - the Qantas receipt (which is actually a printed letter), is one of the many memories that were filed. Don't really add to the folders anymore. (which is a good thing as it was a lot of work!).

QC life cost around $3K about 15 years ago; I know someone who actually bought it round then and I recall them commenting on the price. By the time it was discontinued it had gone up to about $4K.
