Hi,

Can anyone one advised how you can join Qanats Club, without paying a joining fee.

And has anyone used their lounges at the following places; Brisbane, Auckland,Singapore and coughet.

Iam flying to coughet next month and am looking at joining the Qantas club prior to my trip.

Thanks
M

Not sure about zero joining fee, but AFF Gold membership allows you access to the corporate scheme which does reduce the cost.

My view is that any lounge access when flying is better than no lounge access - so, pay up and make use of it is my advice. In answer to your question, I have used the Qantas Club in Changi, a number of times between 2004-7. I remember thinking it was pretty good.

I'm not currently aware of a joining fee waiver.

SIN lounge is excellent. BNE (Dom) is adequate.

Same here about no joining fee, but why not give them a call might be a deal to be made.

As mentioned previously AFF membership will get you a discount

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card had an offer recently waiving the joining fee I believe....

SIN lounge is excellent.

Indeed it is excellent. Just a watch out though that travellers need to be flying on QF or flying on a partner airline that departs SIN after 3pm (this is the main watch out, for example, a Jetstar flight leaving earlier in the day has no access as the lounge is closed).

yes it is $425, i had the card and definitely did not pay any more than that. the 11 refers to point 11 of terms and conditions:
11. For ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, a Total Annual Fee of $425 applies which includes a $370 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee. For additional cardholders on an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, an Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account. These fees are current as at Monday, 27 October 2014 and are subject to change. The fee information displayed on this page applies to new customers only. Existing customers may be subject to different fees and should call 13 22 73 for information regarding the fees that apply to their account.

You could always join the Frequent Flyer program (I think free with a Woolworths card??) and then fly enough to get enough SC's to qualify for Gold Status and then you would have access to the Qantas Club. That's the way most of us have done it!

To the best of my knowledge, unless your employer provides you with corporate membership rates, your options are limited. Lounge membership is fantastic, but it's going to cost you some dough. You can either get SC's through the flights you already take, save up 140,000 points to get QP membership for a year, take a very expensive status run (I strongly recommend against this), or fork out the money for lounge membership.

Gold Membership on AFF gives you a discount. Frankly, even if you only fly a little bit each year, the QP membership is worth it. But that's just my opinion.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Check the Qantas board for the litany of QP rights that have been gutted in recent years, as the price rose. I decided it was no longer worth it even at the yearly corporate rate (with joining fee paid long ago). Divide your number of lounge visits by what you pay. You may get a shock. Also look at your preferred routes and whether there are accessible lounges there when flying to/from/through those ports. If you fly mainly domestically, often enough (in Y) to need a lounge but not often enough to get to gold, it might almost be worth it. Internationally, there are far fewer accessible lounges than there used to be. You'll find yourself in a lot of airports with an expensive card that gets you nothing.

QP also has the insidious effect of tying you to Qantas, and the one partner that confers similar rights to QP members (AA); I don't count EK as you get precious little from them in QP unless you're regularly in DXB and always on QF flight numbers.
You would often be better off with BFOD (maybe sometimes in J, which gets you into the lounge anyway), or focusing on flying across multiple airlines to acquire a single alliance-wide gold card, that would get you into any lounge in that alliance as long you're flying with any airline in that alliance on that day.

We used the Priority Club lounge in coughet last year. Member of Citibank Platinum card has free access while an accompanying guest cost if $27 USD. No alcohol at this lounge and fairly basic with sandwiches, coffeee etc but much preferable than being in the public areas particularly if you have a fair wait time. Also used the Priority lounge at Bali last year where alcohol was provided but limited to wine, beer.

Think that there is no way around joining fee
I have not use coughet lounge but Bangkok was a shared lounge, nothing special

You can buy AA membership which is about the same price, but I don't think they have a joining fee. Not sure either if they accept Au memberships.

akl business lounge nothing to write home about - plain and dated. snacks are pretty much just that - snacks

and the perth lounge often is overtaken by a sea of yellow especially those who are transiting. too loud and sometimes more peaceful in the plebs area downstairs

if your paying over $400 a year at 20% interest you may as well just stump up the dough for an outright lounge pass
