I don't understand. If you are a Qantas Club Member and fly Business Class internationally. What Star Alliance lounges are available without charge?

Qantas is a member of OneWorld Alliance, so *A lounges are irrelevant unless you're flying one of their airlines in business.

If you are flying business class then the ticket should come with lounge access based on the airline you are flying.

If you have status in a particular alliance, you may also have a choice of lounges again depending on who you are flying with and where you are flying to/from.

Qantas Club membership is really for frequent flyers who usually fly Economy or Premium Economy, who do not yet have gold status and want lounge access.

Oh, thats interesting Lynda. Is the only way to know whether lounge access is included to ask the ticketing airline or is there an easier way?

Who are you flying with, and where from and to?

J (Business) will typically include business lounge access with the airlines own lounge (assuming there is one at the airport) or a partner lounge (if the airline does not operate its own lounger there).

.

Lynda we are flying Thai and Lufthansa. I cant see J-class (or ??) written on the electronic ticket because I dont know where to look. Could you tell me please?

If you're flying business class with Thai and Lufthansa, you will have lounge access based on your class of travel.

You can search for Star Alliance lounges here; enter your airline, departure airport and class of travel to see what's available to you - Lounge Information - Star Alliance

We are flying Business Class but that has not always afforded us automatic access to Club Lounges. Lynda mentioned our tickets may need to be J-Class. Id be interested to know if you agree Mattg and if you or Lynda can tell me where I find this info in our docs.

If you're in business class then you'll have lounge access through the operating airline.

J class is just an acronym for business class. (It can refer sometimes to the specific booking class J, but not in this case.)

Rosemary, if you are certain you purchased business class tickets, then use the link Matt posted above to check which lounge/s you can use.

Also who are the tickets issued by? If Thai Airways you can call them to confirm, if Lufthansa then contact them, if booked through a travel agent ask them to confirm for you.

You can only use the lounge/s that is/are affiliated with the airfare you book, so if flying on a Thai flight you can not use the Qantas Club (even if you have a membership) as you are not flying on a QF flight number.

For example if I assume you are not a Frequent Flyer member (if you are a star alliance ff and have status you should also add this to your search as that may increase options) and are flying THAI in Business from SYD to BKK then you can use either the Air New Zealand Intl. Lounge or the SilverKris Lounge Business Class.

If i assume you are then flying business from BKK to Berlin then in Bangkok you can choose from either the Thai Royal Silk Lounge, Singapore Airlines Silver Kris Lounge Business Class or EVA AIR Lounge.

Ive never heard of an international business class ticket that didnt include at least access to one lounge at each departing airport.

It really is confusing Rosemary.many of us on here have forgotten how hard it was when we first embarked on our loyalty journey.

if you have a business class boarding pass no matter what fare bucket it is in-j,c,d there are a few and to make it harder can be different on different airlines-you are able to access business class lounges.Mattg has given you the Star Alliance guide to lounges.
Just to reinforce here is Lufthansa's policy.

https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/lounge-types-and-access

Scroll down to Business class ticket and you will see that a business class boarding pass on any Star Alliance flight gets you entrance to the Business class lounge.

The last column is an arrivals lounge. So if arriving at an airport which has a Lufthansa arrivals lounge you can use it if you have a lufthansa boarding pass.but here it gets complicated. If you are on another airlines codeshare even if you are on a Lufthansa plane you wont get arrivals access. For example if your trip was booked through Thai even on the Lufthansa plane your boarding pass may have a Thai codeshare so on your boarding pass the flight number will start with TG not LH for Lufthansa.

In the past you should have had lounge access on a business class ticket though in some airports there are no lounges for the particular alliance you may be flying.

Seems like a good place to tell an old but amusing lounge story.
Living in BKK in the 90s Mrs PA and I won J class KLM tickets Bangkok to Taipei return. Checked in, so when to the lounge, as one does. Having a coffee and cake. The overly enthusiastic lounge attendant came over and asked us to leave due to the code on the ticket (raffle winner code, I guess)!!!!! Even on board we were the second class J passengers. It was all fun but the opportunity to provide a positive sell of their airline has been lost for 20 years - but has amused us often!! The return trip was fine.
