I booked flights from Melbourne to Denpasar via Sydney for August 2020 during the last DSC offer in February. Qantas has officially cancelled the SYD-DPS flights but not the domestic legs to get to Sydney and back. I understand that if there is any chance of getting those DSC, I’d have to still take those same international flights by end of those promo dates in Feb 21. The domestic flights are still showing in my bookings. Shouldn’t they have been cancelled too? I received the cancellation email detailing flight credits and am expecting a follow up email that outlines the refund options. I’m really not confident on flights to Bali actually happening by Feb 2021. Any one else in same boat? Will status even matter by the time 2020 is through? :)

I'm in a similar boat, Qantas cancelled my DSC Oct trip SYD to LHR, but I had booked the domestic legs separately on a different Booking Number after the INT flights.
Havent got around to calling and requesting a cash refund yet...I was going to ask if I could cancel the positioning flights without penalty as well...
Worst case they can be flight credits...

I had a similar situation, and there was at least one other here with the same, for flights in July. The domestic flights dropped off a few days after the international flights. Wait and see...

Solution
I called Qantas last night around 9pm, about a 5 min wait and got my INT flight credit converted to a refund, no trouble there.
Then I asked as the only reason I was going DOM to SYD on the other flights at all was to do the INT flight could I refund them as well. She didnt argue at all and refunded ALL 3 separate bookings...one was direct and the return was including a stopover.
They were all Red E deals or cheap fares. Usual warning about 6-8 weeks till I see any money. She was very quick and seemed to want me off the phone, I hope she understood I wanted refunds not credits or to pay for cancelling...worst case I would have a weekend in SYD and keep the flights. She spoke good English but the line was coughpy.
I am a Gold FF...might explain the short wait at least.

Well, as the only Call Centres that are still operating are located in Oz and Auckland, I would hope that the English language would be at least passable. 😀

Edit: Perhaps she was speaking Kiwi, rather than actual English: for example, “Wilkim to Qintas ....” sort of thing

QF HBA call centre agents are working from home at the moment. CPT is also back online.

Thank you everyone. As Vic said above, the domestic flights did drop off thankfully. I have received another email from Qantas and the full amount I paid for all legs is available as a flight credit or refund if I decide to do that. Really have to wait and see.

Hi Jupiterrocket,

A credit voucher should carry the same PNR as the original booking. If you went this route rather than the refund, the flights subsequently booked using the voucher should also carry the DSC associated with the initial booking - it does *not* have to be the same routing as the original.

I hope this is all true - I've a few bookings I made during that same DSC offer and is the approach I'm taking to looking to realise the DSC in the future.

Regards,

BD

This happened to me too. I called Qantas last night at 8pm and got through after 5mins of holding. The lady was more than happy to cancel the domestic connection, and the return flights that hadn't been cancelled by Qantas yet. She said there'd be no fees/loss of points as it was obvious I couldn't return from overseas if Qantas had cancelled the original trip there.

Whole process only took 10 mins.
The refund she said could take up to 10 weeks.

I had a BNE-MEL-SIN-LHR and return trip booked for October. After getting original "flight has been cancelled" notice, I checked the booking and only MEL-SIN-LHR had been cancelled. BNE-MEL and LHR-SIN-MEL-BNE were still on booking. After a few days, i got notice of full cancellation and a credit was issued.
As there's so much uncertainty I called for a refund - answered with a minute and processed (Platimum ??). Was a very poor line. No email provided confirming conversation/request for refund - "I've edited the booking and you'll get an e-mail prior to refund" - Poor Form No.1. Standard 8-10 weeks for refund - pretty Poor Form No. 2 considering they have has use of my money for 4 months now.

I had my BNE-HKG return Qantas flights cancelled (and got a refund organised after calling) but unfortunately my positioning flights CNS-BNE (return) were on a separate PNR so the agent indicated that I was not able to cancel them (even for a voucher) without penalty. Yesterday I was informed the CNS to BNE segment was pushed forward two hours. I haven't responded yet to the email but wonder if I now have any chance of getting a refund or voucher. What experience have others had with this situation? Also, did all the lucky ones above who were able to get their domestic legs refunded after the international leg cancellation have their flights on the same ticket? Any advice or comment appreciate.

Tell them the new timing doesn't suit so you want to cancel with a full refund - this was grounds for a refund pre-covid, no reason it shouldn't be now.

By me saying saying 3 separate DOM bookings refunded and cancelled...hopefully... I mean 3 different Booking numbers, which were ALL different to the INT fare booking.

One of those DOM bookings was moved 30 minutes by Qantas before I called.

I was not worried about the DSC part of it anymore as I was extended another year Gold for free anyway.
