Am I the only one who doesnt like the food in the Q Lounge ? ( dr.ron says YES )

I am not a regular visitor to the Qantas Lounge ( ie: weekly/ or even monthly !) but I do frequent the Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne lounges, and in the last 6 months I have noticed on MY visits that all soups are SPICY (insert vegetable) LENTIL , there is ALWAYS a curry and rice, the bread is sourdough ( ie tough) and there is always the cherry flan, and the cheese selection is coughpy.

What happened to the scones, jam and cream ?

How about some hot main for people who cant stand curry !!!

Today in Sydney - hot spicy tomato lentil soup/ chicken korma curry and rice/ pumpkin and assorted grains salad/cherry flan !!!!

lucky there was sav blanc

...end of rant

Yep. Agree. It's quite ordinary.

I think I read something recently about the catering contract for the J lounge being up for renewal soon. I can't remember which thread it was in though. I might just be dreaming.

You're not the only one.

If you travel more than once a month, the selection gets pretty boring.....

Sorry drron, I'm with mrs.dr.ron on this one.

This was mentioned at the AFF Rockpool Lunch a couple of months ago - apparently the contract for the domestic lounge catering is going to tender in the near future, if not already. No word that I can recall about the timing for the new caterer to commence.

While a rant on here is satisfying mrs.dr.ron, have u popped your thoughts in an email to Qantas???

Some of these issues brought up about food sometimes seem to elicit some action (without holding breath of course)...

I have to say QP stuff becomes pretty repetitive, but i did like the food selection in the T5 galleries lounge earlier this year, pity won't be getting that again anytime soon...

I'm the opposite, and quite enjoy the selection on offer.

However as much as I enjoy the return of the NPPP, I miss those yummy pizzas.

I have no complaints and love the fact there are healthy options.

The pizza needs to stay away, carbs and fat fest!!

Given the dreadful "food" that is supplied in flight, the lounge has become more important when travelling across meal periods. But sadly, tomato soup, crackers and cheese just doesn't really fill the void. There is rarely any food of substance when I have been in the lounges. Maybe we should bring in Hungry Jacks and they might get the message.

The wine is nice though.

I think being able to buy something onboard would be preferable than the cold muffin or cookie that is so filled with sugar it makes your toes curl.

I find my hospital food more appetizing than the lounge food. Not only the quality but the presentation (awful looking soup, messy, spilt stuff everywhere) gives the place a real soup-kitchen feel.

If it's an outsourced caterer, where is the 'NP' influence coming from?

I've not had much opportunity to sample them, but the island dining plate is probably the only highlight fo me. The eggs in the J lounge are nothing if not consistent - consistently bland, flavourless and rubbery. I just don't know how you can screw up scrambled eggs, other than to make them out of a packet. One simple thing that I think would make my appreciation for the lounge go up 1000%.

I think he designs the menu and they interpret the menu. This is a lose lose situation given what I think of his food in general. At the AFF lunch though I thought he was a really nice and open guy - I just don't like the influences over his food design. I hope to god he doesnt get too much more influence over the F lounge food.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good curry and love spicy food.

However, why serve bland curry either at the lounge or in Y to your guests when they are going to be spending at least 1 hr in a steel can with hundreds of others??? Doesn't anyone else thing that this is a recipe for disaster or flatulence (for those who are curry challenged) ?

I guess its probably easier and cheaper for the catering and hence QF.

I'm pretty disappointed myself over the standard of food in the J lounge. I suggest Qantas take a slightly larger portion of the extra $400-$500 they charge to fly in J over discount economy one way MEL-SYD and use it to hire a caterer whose standards are a little better. With the J food on board having declined so much in standard and meals now only being served in narrow time bands during the day it's become more important to get something reasonable to eat in the lounge.

I think the J and QP food is incredibly lacking.

Sorry - but the same cough antipasto (if that's what you call it) in the QP does not count as "food".

Maybe my memory is romanticized but when I joined the QP in 2001 and GW in 1998 the food selection was quite decent - particularly around meal times. And there was a decent amount.

Whilst there is "some" food on offer in J lounges - I don't usually bother as when they put it out - the servings are so small, and the scrum is like vultures - it's all gone before I get to the front of the line.

And I agree - T5 Galleries J lounge was a great spread of food.

I was so impressed with their breakfast offering. I used to think the QP was of a similar standard (just a bit smaller :))
