Have not flown Business class domestically before, but I have a mulit-city booking coming up with most of the flights at mid morning - mid afternoon and late evening.

Does Qantas always serve hot meals at non-meal times? And on flights less than a hour long like MEL-ADL, and MEL-SYD?

I lust after J class food!:D

For brunch/morning tea, expect to be offered something to eat like a warm blueberry crepe or fruit salad, for short J services. i.e. not much at all.

Between PER-KGI it was a (cold) smoked salmon salad of sort, which was much more palatable than the Pork rubbish they served up coming back on the KGI-PER Lunch service.

I've flown bugger all domestic lately and generally pick meal flights, so I only have the one recent photo example.

(BNE-SYD mid-afternoon)

Thinking back, I've often get warm meals even on short hops and odd times. Steak sandwich in the mid afternoon between SYD-MEL/BNE for instance.

Specifically to ADL-MEL v/v I am not too sure but you should get a choice, but maybe not always a hot option. Maybe I'm lucky. Do check out the J lounge in MEL however.

Those options look far better than my recent experience.
QF can have as much inconcistency as DJ.

Flew QF547 last week BNE-SYD 5.55pm departure. Late as usual departing 6.25pm. Not at gate till 8.00pm, wait for taxi, not home till 8.30pm.
Knowing that flight is only a snack in Y, thought I would drop 5000pts and at least get something substantive in J.

At least the wine was ok - Yering Station Shiraz Voigner 2008 or Voyager Estate Sem Sauv Blanc 2010

But as for the food.

Choice 1.....
Cheese Platter

Choice 2......

Potato and Leek soup.

Whilst it was tasty, I certainly was expecting something more fulfilling on what if it was scheduled 5min later would be a dinner flight.

I've flown a stack of QF J domestic recently and they really have lifted on the catering front. Hit or miss hot or not on shoulder meals ( I don't care myself!) but always a hot roll and usually tasty even if a refreshment service.

Enjoy and enjoy the J lounge!

QF520 SYD-BNE 11:05 (scheduled) departure Sunday just gone. J meal was a toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a small fruit salad and some bread.

Banana Bread Snack - very tasty.

snack on the plate, fruit in the bowl (3 cubes of melon, 3 cubes of pineapple & a handfull of berries)
plus an offer of bread on the side, if you wanted more bread with your bread)

April 2012 - 1.5hr domestic business class AM flight

Given this thread doesn't get as much love as the DJ one.
MEL-SYD 7.30am. Ricotta and Herb Frittata with side of tomatoes and lots of bacon

Have done quite a few CBR-MEL flights at 20:00-21:00 departure recently

Tasting plate
Cheese plate

Are the two options I have had twice each now

Have a few photos somewhere!

DJ have been expanding their hot food offerings onto flights falling outside the rather limited times that QF seem to regard as meal times in my experience and for a significantly lower J price point. ;)

Maybe a thread on the worst " J " food would be a good idea. Couple of weeks ago wife and I on a points upgrade. (waste of 16K) flight ex ADL-MEL was offered 2 biscuits in a plstic wrapper each. flight was delayed 90 mins so was actually 1PM when we left, a lunch flight as far as i was concerned. Also to top it off a/c was changed to a config. 737 400 series. Next flight to HBA in J wasnt much better. got the Salmon as previously mentioned.

I love it that so many of us take photographs of our food!

I don't feel quite so much the nerd in the herd now.

Cairns to Brisbane on Australia Day, brunch in J was a choice of pancakes or a fruit salad with cinnamon-spiced yoghurt.
