Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

Cancelled a domestic booking last night and turned it into a voucher. It was a red-e deal. Just looked at re-booking for a later date online, and no change fee was being applied, just the fare difference. This is great if it is across the board, as it will take a lot of pressure of the call centre if they don't have to get involved to manually remove the change fee.

I cancelled mine yesterday, taking the credit voucher which I will use to rebook pretty much the same flight (as it has to be the same people) in October. Was super easy, done from the Qantas booking website page and only cost me the CC charges.

You're pretty optimistic thinking this will all be over by October!

With a credit does one have to book by the credit expiry or fly by the credit expiry?

Seems fairly plausible that travel restrictions will be lifted by October - I would imagine that we'll either all have it, or have overcome it, by that point.

The economy (and airlines particularly) are very unlikely to have recovered though.

As @33kft and @craven morehead - I'm in the same boat - have got an AMEX travel credit booking for August 2020. Hopefully, the travel restrictions are lifted by them or it becomes safe to travel. Otherwise, have to call up AMEX and understand how this would be handled.

Also, all my bookings are done during DSC - hopefully, getting a credit voucher with the PNR retained, would give DSC when booked & flown using the credit voucher at a later date

We purchased a ticket to Europe last June using points plus pay through the qantas website. The ticket ended up being emerites to Lisbon, then Cathay Pacific back transiting through Hong Kong to Brisbane.

We went to cancel the flights and get the Voucher option. Then discovered that we'd have to use the voucher before July this year - like that is going to happen! However I have just noticed that the leg from Madrid to Hong Kong has disappeared totally from our booking. We have not been notified by Qantas or Cathy about this. Does this give us ammunition for getting a total refund? Sorry, I am really confused by this whole situation. Hope someone can advise.

I think "Lynda2475" is asking the same question I have (that haven't had a reply) but here goes.
I am booked to fly on April 28th so my date fits the newly announced "Free cancellation rules" but when I looked at QANTAS.com for details on the voucher all it said was: "the Voucher (sic).....can be redeemed for travel within 12 months of the date that the original ticket was issued...."
Which in my case means I booked this ticket on August 30th 2019 ...so therefore I have to re book and travel before August 30th 2020 ! That's next to useless given the PM and all the advice is that this situation wont resolve until at least September. If anyone from QANTAS or who has inside knowledge of QANTAS admin (like a travel professional) knows if I am reading the QANTAS site correctly or not I would be appreciate your input

I'm by no means someone who has inside knowledge on QF or a TA - but reading the page, my understanding, at least in your situation is that you will be expected to use the ticket before 30/08/2020.

However, you might call QF, at a later date but before 30/08/2020 and ask for the validity of the voucher to be extended by a certain amount of time, citing the virus & travel restriction situation.

I want to say that "I'm sure" someone from QF would understand, but I'm saying "it's worth a try"

Welcome to AFF @Cat Lady :)

Anther curse of PointPlusPay!

When is the travel? I really think you should wait until one of the flights is cancelled as is almost certain to happen. At that point you should be able to get a full refund.

Has anyone tried moving/cancelling a partially flown booking yet?
Not in this round, but I tried it from Japan in Jan/Feb when we wanted to avoid Shanghai. The option to cancel via Manage Booking was not available, so had to call (usual grumbles about long waits and disconnections). The person I spoke to said that the option to cancel on line for a partially flown booking is never available. Certainly was not for me at that time.
