Dear AFF
I have generally resisted these offers previously but I can transfer 1,250,000 Amex points to QFF and receive a bonus 500,000 points. It’s very tempting, but besides the need to keep my Qantas account active and also knowing that I would be limited to Oneworld (claims to have around 50 affiliates but I can’t identify that many) are there any other considerations I should be aware of?

Not sure what the ratio for AMEX points to QFF points is? (edit : its 1 to 0.5)

So, its quite a lot of points, one of your first considerations should be how do you intend to use them? Do you have a plan in mind? A european sojourn? An asian adventure? Or too many toasters?

You will be limited to Oneworld, but its quite a significant network. Remember also, what you dream for in flight redemptions, may often not be unavailable. Can be hit and miss, so be prepared to be flexible and/or patient.

I'd suggest, before transferring the points, do a little research on potential uses that might satisfy a need. Just a bit of trial and error, do some searches on the QF website. And decide just before the deadline.

Many thanksBoca68. For 1.25m transferred points it is 40%. We won’t be buying toasters, but instead catching up on travelling in Business and First as we have been since we retired around three years ago. Hence, we’re fully flexible. Thinking of a trip to Africa, South America (haven’t been to either) and then around the world. As you suggest, waiting until the last minute is good advice.

The one big consideration you need to remember is that unless you have a high status with a Qantas, it can be hard to redeem your points for the pointy end of the plane. And that booking nearly a year in advanced to get the best seats is a strategy you'll probably need to stick to.

Just an FYI as maybe this will limit your flexibility and gravel time etc .

I'm also curious, what credit cards these days store points? I used to have a cifibank card and so received these offers as well. But I haven't had a card that stores points for years, and still get these letters from Qantas a few times a year.

Best of luck finding award seats in J/F especially if two and the QF fess out of OZ well that's another story.

Many thanks for your responses. Amex platinum charge card stores points (annual fee $1200).
We’ve so far had no trouble booking seats at the pointy end. We’re retired so have been flexible. We booked return from Zurich in Feb 18 for travel May 8, for example. Emirates First to Singapore stopover, then Qantas First to Melbourne.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
