I know this posisbly sounds extremely lame but who cares!

Has anyone had any experience with travelling domestically on your birthday on Qantas?

Need to fly Sydney to Melbourne.

Options 1: Jetstar International flight and get to get 1st lounge access
Option 2: Pay extra fly Qantas and hope for an op up as a WP?

I am leaning more to Jetstar and just using the Sydney 1st Lounge because at least the benefit is somewhat guaranteed

Any suggestions?

Option 1 I think
IIRC a member posted having "Happy Birthday" printed on a QF boarding pass, personally I'd prefer to toast myself with a glass or two of Taittinger and the Pav :)

I'd go with Princess Fiona on this one. QF do print Happy Birthday on your boarding pass...sometimes. Even that's not a guaranteed benefit. Stick with the F lounge time.

Flying First MEL-SIN-LHR on my birthday last year there was a birthday card awaiting me at my seat when I boarded.

Never received anything - and have celebrated quite a few on both domestic and international, travelling through all tiers of QF (WP 3x and Gold 4x). No problem, and certainly never expected anything - the cakes and having staff at the hotels I was shooting for singing Happy Birthday to me in the lobby, always got me though - embarrassment x15354767858697659

Thats great of QF. What a lovely touch.

I think a member of my family may have tipped off the F Lounge Hostess about the date but Qantas organised the card themself.

On the morning of the flight I also had an email from the QF sales consultant who booked my flights for me (he was from the UK booking centre based in Aukland) which was a nice touch.

concur option 1 and hope JQ doesn't spoil your birthday!

Cathay Pacific tend to the birthday op-up for their elites with much more frequency from what I've heard

I dont remember receiving any recognition on my birthday in the past.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That would be moi. :) No op-up love though!

I asked for a points upgrade on my Birthday and got it for free, I was pretty stoked with that.

So is that your full birthday on the BP? 24 Jan 1940? Good to see you are still active at 73, just shows you have to move it or lose. ;)

Yeah for 73 I look great...:(

I flew ADL-SYD on my b'day two years ago. No "Happy Birthday" on my BP, but seat 1A at the self check-in kiosk issued BP was a very happy birthday. Lounge angel was abe to get my partner (on separate PNR) upgraded also.

If there was an option to go the QF 1st Lounge I would do that however!

I've flown on my birthday on QF 4 times. Not once was anything done/printed.

Housemate was in the F lounge on his birthday and a nice little platter of fruit with chocolate plaque that had 'happy birthday' on it came out. Was a nice touch I thought:)

My mother turned 70 during a FRA-SIN leg and got no recognition at all. I thought of asking a FA of doing something special but it seemed like they were running around like chooks without heads.

Sister in law received a cake and small bottle of champagne in Y last year travelling to Europe. She was surprised

With the new csm ipads which know all... perhaps birthday greetings will increase.

I'm thinking of trying out a qf flight on my birthday to see if they do anything special.

I'm wondering how much they use it. I just took two QF long hauls, and the only recognition I got was around half way through flight #1, after a very disturbing/interesting incident with a pax that was met by police at the first stop, and then all i got was 'i'm sorry I didn't come and see you earlier! I'm sorry about the disturbance!'. On flight #2, I got nothing. Nadda. Zip. Then, all the people around me got J PJ's, noise cancelling headphones, and amenity kits dished out. I know one was a NB too (saw the BP). I got nothing. I didn't expect it either, I just kept to myself but it was curious that I got no attention and NB's were fawned over by the FA's. This was on the mini Y cabin on the upper deck of the 380.
