We did get an iPad on a flight from MEL to Hamilton Island but think we were in J. Not sure if Y get them on longer trips.

Not recently, but in the past I've used my laptop for Q Streaming. Has this changed?

Sure it was QF? I think the VA streaming is web browser based using silverlight so works on laptops.
If it is QF do you remember how? I though you needed to get the app which there is none for windows or macOS

Buy a tablet. Once you have a decent one, you will rarely use your laptop again (for personal use).

Sent from my Galaxy Tab S.....

Don't forget that the newer 738's have personal IFE, so you could end up with seat back IFE anyways.

Buy a tablet.
Yes, do that.

I'd also recommend getting a battery charger that can recharge your iPad especially if flying internationally. If the seatback IFE happens to not be working for your seat and the AC power point at your seat is not working or not available it's nice to have your own tablet that you can use.

Pretty sure, but also reasonable chance I'm mistaken. I've only flown a couple of sectors on VA in the last couple of years, but maybe I'm confused.

I've just asked QF on Twitter. I'll post the response here. That or I'll test it out on Monday if my flights have Q Streaming.

Well that was quick. I asked "I watch movies/TV using Q Streaming on my laptop or only available via tablets/phones using the app?" and received the response from QF "...at the moment, yes. We're very keen on customer demand though and will advise you if there are any changes."

You can use a tablet during take off and landing as well. You have to store a laptop.

So the answer was YES only tablets & phones?

Good question!

My response "@Qantas is that a yes only tablets and mobile or yes I can watch it on my tablet? Answering yes to an either/or question isn't very helpful." to which I received an even less helpful response of "...you can use Qantas supplied iPads or your own device on selected aircraft. See here: http://bit.ly/1S1XfpF ."

From that link

Can laptops be used?
The Q Streaming system is optimised for use with iOS and Android phones and tablets, however selected Windows 7 and 8 (Desktop mode only) and Mac OS X 10.8 - 10.10 devices can be used. Please ensure you have the latest Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari or Firefox web browser installed as well as the latest version of Flash Player.
When opening your web browser you will be redirected to the Q Streaming page. To play video content you will need to download, run and install the DRM plugin, which is available for download onboard from the Movies or TV section.

Which again isn't too helpful. Does this mean no Windows 10 support? Not details on what is meant by "selected" devices.

tablet/phone only - you can only stream using the streaming app, not via a web browser.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have further clarification (well I suspect just re-iterating what is on the website). Windows 10 not supported. It actually doesn't make technical sense why it would be OS specific. Either the web browser and plugins (Flash) are compatible or they aren't. I'll hopefully remember to test it out on my flights next week (Windows 10 on my laptop) and report back.

Windows 10, Firefox 52.x. Flash and Silverlight installed didn't work. Initially prompted to download a Panasonic plugin. Installing that still gave the same result.

Well i just got back from my trip.
SYD to ASP had seatback screens. Got to watch a few episodes of Ready for Takeoff again.
DRW to SYD had Q streaming. Didn't get the laptop out. Watched half an episode on my phone before giving up. Ended up listening to the main screen movie (screen was too far away to really see).
Definitely felt like i had gone back 20 odd years with entertainment options. If i get a "how was qantas" survey its definitely something i will note.

I don't really want to buy a tablet for the sole purpose of watching stuff on planes.
