Purchasing AMEX Membership Rewards Points

Hey guys

I've seen some old reports and other information dating back to around 2014 suggesting that it was possible to purchase AMEX Membership Rewards points for $25 per 1000 points.

I haven't been able to verify this or find current information to support it and was curious if anyone knew whether they'd discontinued this?

Nevermind I found the answer. And for those interested, the answer is yes.

However, you can only purchase them to use immediately - they can't be purchased to just sit in your MR account.

Agreed, especially given the portability of these points and when you compare to say, purchasing 1000 KrisFlyer points which is USD40.

I am excited to have found this. It's opened up quite a few options for me moving forward with my travel.

I've always thought that too. I've looked at purchasing them a few times, but never needed to in the end.

I don't think I'll need to either very often but knowing that it's there and and a source of points so that I needn't wait for more to accrue just helps me with flexibility for travel arrangements which is a big plus in my book.
