Some of you may still be working in offices, albeit with the 'four metre social distancing' rule. Another group may be in 'normal' other settings such as a hospital, mine or construction site.

Others may be at home, working on a laptop if it's practical for your type of work.

Some, unfortunately will be on leave without pay through no fault of their own, or that will be coming to them as annual leave credits are used.

A few years ago video conferencing was predicted to take over. It hasn't as far as I can observe.

With coronavirus, how are you finding productivity given that we mostly can't travel because employers/insurers won't allow it, or because meetings or events at the destination have been cancelled or postponed.

Is working remotely at home, or having video discussions with colleagues or clients interstate as productive as flying or travelling by other modes to the latter for the day or overnight?

Or is, as I've always thought, the face-to-face (in person) interaction so important to deals, agreements and the like that flying is essential?

When all this concludes, will some employers/companies/govt departments and agencies change their way of working and insist you fly less and use video conferencing or similar more, or will we all go back to how it was in say November 2019?

Will domestic air travel recover really quickly as some assert, or will it be gradual in its climb back, or stay somewhat depressed?

We're doing almost all meetings, local and interstate, via telephone conferencing. There's some patchiness to the conference calls, and people have to remember to speak up :) But it's ok. It's way easier when you know all the people in the meeting because you know who's talking. Join a teleconference where everyone else knows each other and you don't and it can be hard to assign thoughts and ideas to a particular company or branch.

Video conferencing is fine if you have good software and systems to support it. The downside is that not many people enjoy looking at themselves on screen :( At least in a face to face meeting you aren't looking at yourself!

I often WFH anyway, so not a huge difference. However, I have found that for some things the lack of face to face interaction has made things a little more difficult, especially when it comes to relationship building. When you're kicking off a new program it's an essential activity to get things off on the right foot.

Anyway, hey ho - we'll get around it and just deal with it as it goes. Especially with UK going into more restrictive measures now.

Like anything new, I suspect that initially things are clunky but we can and will find a way to make it work.

Can anyone recommend a decent webcam. I have a docking station and dual monitors so it would be good to have something that sits on top of one of the monitors or on the side. TIA

I have a HP one that sits on top and works nicely, model is end of line I think but their new one would be as good if not better.

Looks like there isn't a lot of choice - obviously everyone is buying them. I'll worry about it tomorrow

The price of monitors here have shot up considerably.
Yes I investigated one for my wife and now hard to get. She had to go into work for something else so brought her work monitor home. Next is she needs a proper office chair!

Have a very good home office with speakerphone but no webcam. Don’t like the idea of people seeing me at my desk, bad enough they hear me lol. However we have teams and it has worked well once we learn how. That is the issue, most people need educating in how to use these products to get the best from them. The problem is the lack of resources that are easy to understand.

Mrs FB said the exact same thing yesterday... all this new tech being pushed onto people and not a scooby on how to use.
