Hi all

Well, after 6 months hunting and begging, Mrs Pineapple finally found a place to stay nearby in BNE for Old Mrs Pineapple, who has been in a CBR nursing home. Very short window of opportunity or we lose the place.

This means the ladies pineapple need to fly from CBR to BNE, while Mr P chugs up the Newell Hwy in a van full of boxes.Yee har! Me, my rented hi-ace and all the semis :)

Meanwhile, old Mrs pineapple has Limited mobility, ataxia, can't stand unassisted, etc etc. No worries, QF will no doubt be supportive and we have wheelchairs organised at both ends. J class seats booked on QF.

Would be quite problematic, not to mention humiliating, shoehorning old Mrs P into rows 2 and 3 with the miserable legroom in Dom J these days. Bulkhead row the only practicable option.

So Mrs P rings QF for 'special handling'. Wheelchair ok, but no, sorry, no way you can preselect bulkhead rows, try getting to the airport early.

WTF? Come early to take a punt on a usable seat, the only thing guaranteed out of that idea an extra excursion to the disabled toilet. So I try the WP line. Same story, sorry, 'seating' have blocked the whole of row 1 (although none of the seats are occupied), can't help, can't do nothing. [visionary moment of 'seating', that faceless QF couch, calling the shots :)]

Our $&#% bank treats us better than this! QF has made Mrs Pineapple very :evil:prickly:evil:!!

What is amazing about all of this is that these are $830 J seats we booked when I now discover VA are offering J seats at $550. And for our flight down with DJ the experience couldn't have been more different. Yes Mr Pineapple, you can use your comp. upgrades, I recommend 1D and 1F. Why thank you, that would be lovely.

Well the choice looks like a lay down misere. Ditch the refundable $830 'no can do' seats and go with DJ. But here's my question. Haven't done DJ CBR-BNE since they had Y+ down the front. Just a sanity check that the VA 738s all have real J now?? Can get a 738 CBR-BNE with DJ, flying J, will this give comparable space to QF J?? Do the ERJ 190s have proper J seats also? With more less space at the very front?

Cheers skip (and Mrs P)

Great to hear about your choice to fly DJ. :)

All 738s are fitted with J minus VOD. 700s and 190s still fitted with Y+ seating.

J seat on DJ has no footrest/foot recliner, but otherwise pretty comparable IMO.

Hope this helps. :)

If you do go DJ and get a 700, you might get one with no row 1, no issues with room!

Might still be blocked. No doubt in favour of potential Pollies out of CL? Disinclined to take a punt.

At 2 X $280 saving I would definitely go with DJ. The products are sufficiently close that I wouldn't think twice.

Is the Amex J 25% off offer still on? Not to mention double SCs, family pooling......

Is this something DJ were offering? If so I can check with the contact centre when I call.

I just love the title of the thread :D;):D

Mrs Pineapple wasn't upset either.

For the viewers at home, Old Mrs Pineapple expressed a preference for QF, apparently regarding DJ as some sort of 'new fangled' airline, and angst at the idea of changing anything, even if it saved money :confused:. Also able to secure 1D and 1F at T-80. 1A and 1C remain blocked.

So looks like, against the odds (and I think common sense) they're sticking with QF. Oh well, nice business lounge in CBR...

some people are extraordinary lucky. The number of threads on AFF regarding less than ordinary Y+ product on J purchase would back up my statement.
No luck involved IMHO. I have a theory that I've alluded to on several occasions and thus far it has successfully worked for me.

If the trip is in the window of the two for 1 J sale I would be rebooking.

Ta! Young Mrs Pineapple will look into this. They have released more seats at the lower J rate...

Some sale. The 'sale' price CBR-BNE on Mon is $691, exactly the sale as the cheapest J seats were before the 'sale'. There was only one such seat on her selected flight at the time, so she booked two seats out of the C bucket to keep it on one itinerary.

They do have cheaper seats later in the year, at comparable prices to DJ.

all the +VA J posts failing to mention VA J is a lottery with poor odds

I would say my 100% was pretty good odds.

All 737-800 aircraft, except for one are fitted with J, I've never book a flight in J and not received an aircraft with it.
