Hi All,

Just seeking people’s wise counsel on a travel query I have please.

Have just completed an ATW – as opposed to a traditional RTW – I went around the world on effectively a return ticket in Business.
I found that for me, in my condition/situation, Business, wasn’t really good value, so am looking at PE options.

In a year or two I would like to go back to Europe in PE, and either come back via the same/similar routing, or do another circumnavigation.
My requirements are:

  • SEAT COMFORT – I am a TALL and current a WIDE person, but hope to only still be TALL when I go back - seat comfort is ABSOLUTELY critical – happy to pay for the best, or better than average
  • · I don’t care about the food/catering, etc. – water, and cheese sandwiches would be fine – literally speaking – maybe throw on some ham or roast beef onto the sanger if you want to go luxury
  • · Lounge access – presumably I would have to pay for this – and this is ok – I would only have an Asian transit or stopover on the way over, and back – if I didn’t come home via North America, etc.
  • · Don’t mind doing the ordinary baggage/security checks, etc. - I will try and travel HLO if I can, or small check-in bag if I have to
  • · Don’t care about the IFE offerings – I will take my Kindle and self-entertain
  • · I have about 25K miles with Kris; 40K points with AMEX and 80K points with Velocity - ATM
  • · And so on……

I was thinking SQ, CX or QF depending on how has the most comfortable seat.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc. please?

Thank you in advance…………………….

I will reply because nobody else has. PE seats on SQ, CX and QF are very similar. Width and pitch about the same. The "soft" product is considered better on QF, and then I guess SQ followed by CX (but CX is making some improvements to both the seat and service).

However, the price of PE on QF is much more than the others.

QF's Premium economy is by far the best in both seat and service, cx's seats are good however their service is completely economy including the food. Though as mentioned above cx are apparently improving their PE product however I don't know when that is happening.

I was going to make a few more comments about the PE options, but I think they are outside the OP's questions, and better posted on the relevant airline AFF main thread.

The OP mentions "circumnavigation" in PE. I don't think this is possible on the same airline, and certainly not with QF. A one way circumnavigation (travel direction east or west) would need at least one change of airlines.
