I see that Qantas have changed the International flight search to reflect that of the domestic lay out. Whilst logged in as a WP, I looked at and selected a flight and low and behold as a WP it tells me that I am not able to select seats on Red E Deals. One hopes that this is indeed just the IT lads stuffing up again.

I also note that change fees have increased from $200 to $225.

Furthermore it indicates that one is not able to select seats on the EK (QF Marketed) Flights even on a Flex Fare.... Surely this has to be an error.

And other than having the various classes selectable at the top of the page I think it was easier and less busy in the old lay out. Way too much scrolling and selecting.

I hit this new layout last night, all I wanted to do was make a booking and n the end just could not get the visibility or answers I needed. I did notice that when I had selected my flights the total fare didn't update into the right hand summary box. Also the "flexible with dates" was just hard to use.

As well as the possible bugs you mentioned, I wonder if some of my issues were just "change" related.

In my case I had SQ & QF booking engines as I'm trying to co-ordinate travel with a colleague.

When I was searching mel-syd-bkk qf-ek, it had a tick next to the ek flight 'request points upgrade' which now appears fixed. Got excited for a second that we could request points upgrades on ek..

I tried to search alternate flight options and it just sat there spinning on several occasions never to complete. So clearly the new system has several issues to work out. I did notice seat selection is available before paying now.

Note that seat selection through the Qantas portal for EK operated flights has not been working for some time. To get that you need to go via Emirates.com.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Also with the new layout I can't find out the booking classes from the view source code like I could on the old booking tool. Anyway to view booking class now?

As EK introduced seat selection charges on some Y class fares a few months ago, I would not be surprised if these seat selection charges were also introduced on the QF codeshare flights.

These should not apply to QFF members with status however...

So you can pay $435 more (70% of the orig ticket price) for a few points, SC and seat selection.

Not even close to being worth it in my book.

Non status seat selection internationally in economy has had a fee for some years. I believe it is now $30 for for transpacific.

There is hope - look for "rbd":"x" in the source at the "Flight Bookings - Review" page where x is the booking class for each segment.

For what it's worth I booked an award flight last night HKG-SYD and was able to pre-allocate 43H without any charges applied even though the screen mentions there's may be a charge applied.
