Rather than continue to hijack the ADL poker thread, I thought i'd start a new one.

Note this is not a tournament or a regular thing to start with, more interested in seeing if anyone is keen on a poker night every so often.

I have a nice poker table at home, that sees no use (trying to get 10 or so people together to play cards seems to be tricky these days).

boomy has expressed interest, and i'm keen (hence the offer).

Anyone else interested? Not sure on dates yet, but it's likely to be late next month, or May at this stage.

Open to suggestions of any buy-in for it, and think it would be nice if the people wanting to come at least had some idea of how to play (seeing as there will be cash on the line). Of course, spectators would be welcome (to come and watch, drink, chat etc).

It would be at my apartment, so I won't disclose locations on here, but it's a few stops out of the city on a train and only a 5 minute walk from a train station (or a short Uber ride away, whatever you prefer). My place is small, so I will have to limit numbers, so a confirmed guest list will be required.

*edit*

Proposed Date: Saturday 31st May

The idea: Let's do at least two 'sit'n'go' type tournies, one for the more advance player who wants to put a few bucks on the line, and another for the less experienced who wants to have a bit of fun. We could have the 'advanced' one first, then others could come along for the fun one. I'm happy to dig out the Blackjack table too if people want a mini-casino night out of it (and if the weather is good, the Blackjack could be outdoor blackjack).

I'm sure we can get more together. So far no serious players apart from me though it appears. The 'advance' one could be scrapped, although i'd really like to get some like minded poker players together for a semi-regular game!

Definately interested, depending on dates. End of May suits me. ;)

Due to my lack of skill I would prefer a smaller buyin, as the only flush I am likely to experience is my money down the toilet! I am conversant with the rules of most varieties.

Possibly. I'm not a serious poker player so I'm more comfortable with a smaller buy-in.

depending on the date I could be interested. I'm away mid-April to end of April so May would suit me better

Could be interested, again small buy in. Maybe we could play Stud? I've always wanted to be one. ;) (No idea how to play it though.)

Set a date and see if we're available. Or even have a vote.

7 Card Stud Poker Games - Play Online Seven Card Stud Poker

Anyone who's tempted to come, i'd suggest signing up for one of the various online poker sites (Full Tilt have a good Mac app) and playing for free. The players on the play money parts are generally cough, but you get to figure out the rules, the betting structure and flow of the game. It's a good way to learn (or, if you're in MEL now and want to play for free in real life, drop me a PM and i'll let you know what bars I work at during the week with pub poker, and you can win prizes with that too).

As I may have mentioned on the other thread, I'm in MEL from the 31st May to 2nd June, and again around the 3rd to the 6th August. I could come down outside those dates, but that's when I am definitely coming down. Oh, and I'm awful :p

Perhaps an AFF Poker sesh could be part of AFF8 @ MEL in October, thus these nights (assuming multiple) could get us prepared :p

My work travel is still pretty fluid, but at this stage, I will be here for AFF8.

I'm going to amend the first post to make some suggestions re an earlier one though.

Sorry, don't mean to be putting ideas in peoples heads, and hey, something could be worked out elsewhere too so you could be a player and winning it all! Just throwing some ideas out there :p

I'm happy to join the advanced table and put a little more on the line

Another MEL social event !

rock on!

I used to play poker..... Well a bunch of us kids who at the time thought we were " too cool for school" & played against the authority of the school librarian.... . That was many years ago ! But the memories were good! ( I think we even escaped detention).

But seriously, I'm no expert, but the sound of a unique social event like this has me interested.

I'm a bit busy for May, but maybe sometime in June I would be keen perhaps.

Great idea & thanks for putting up the idea!

Looks like there is good respond, now we need to try and find a suitable date.

Slowly slowly. We really need more than 7 people to make it work (both an advance and beginner)

As mentioned previously, i'm more interested in the serious one TBH. And i'm not talking high stakes, a $20 buy in is about it (so that makes a decent amount to play for, without being a huge amount to fork out to play). The beginner one I'm guessing would be $5-10.

Interested, but as you know it is hard for me to confirm work dates this far out.

I am currently sitting on an old JASA (in U class) ticket to LAX departing on the Wednesday prior to this, but I don't think I will have the annual leave to make that trip happen, so I will have to dial the MASA hotline to cancel or rebook that ticket.

So, it is likely I should be in Australia, which increases the chances of attendance.
