I called the WP help desk to try to place a request for an upgrade for just my wife and myself (as the QFF website will only let me place a request for all 5 of us travelling on the same ticket).

They said I could not place a request as the ticket was issued by LH as part of a RTW deal?

I said that the QFF website would allow me to make the request, and agent reply was the system would just ignore the request?

Am travelling on QF flight number (96) on QF metal and NO codeshare mentioned whatsoever.

I can choose seats for the whole family as a WP

Any ideas? thanks in advance

It’s always been the case you have to request for everyone on the same ticket. Not sure that what the Agent is saying is the reason.

I would imagine it is to do with 5 pax on the same ticket. Normally, if you ring to request an upgrade just for some, but not all, they simply split the booking into 2 PNRs, then place the upgrade request for all pax in the appropriate PNR (as the request applies to all pax). I suspect what they are saying is that they can't split the PNR as it is owned by LH, so they can't help you.

Thanks for the replies, the split of tickets makes the most sense

I might try the premium desk another day and try my luck, don't want to pay for the kids to be upgraded as they wont appreciate it nearly as much :)

QF won't split a PNR they don't own or create, specially one from LH as part of a RTW as that could cause all sorts of issues and complications.. it would need to be split for the entire trip I think and from the issuing agent.

I mean I could be wrong, but I think this would be very very complex and QF res wouldn't want to touch it IMHO.

You're not wrong, they don't own the ticket so they won't touch it for a myriad of reasons.

Being a PNR with a RTW in it, it needs to be split by the agent who created it. Anything else is asking for potential trouble with PNR desynchronisation and so forth.

Note that the 5 passengers are NOT on the same TICKET. Its the same PNR and each passenger will have their own unique ticket number. But that does not change the fact that the five passengers are in the same booking (PNR) and the only way to "split" this is to create 5 new PNRs (bookings) and then re-issue the tickets. That may come with a re-issue fee depending upon the conditions of the fare under which the booking was created, and will likely result in a re-calculation of the fare as it is basically creating 5 new bookings and tickets.

well, LH could split the PNR into two - 2PAX and 3PAX.

However, from experience this is not advisable unless you are really keen. Such splitting can cause issues for later flights when it come to seating together etc.

Other than the 2X3 issue, the ticket being issued by LH is not relevant for upgrades.

I have upgraded a few times with QFF points on QF operated and marketed services when on non QF issued tickets (!= 081-).
