My partner has conference once a year at the Hilton, but he's not a member. I've been joining him the last couple of years as we tend to stay on for the weekend at a very reduced rate which includes full breakfast and internet so a good deal.
a) can he pick up points for stays associated with conferences?? or staying on at a reduced rate?
b) then transfer them to me later? I tend to take care of the travel bookings although if we're not staying at a chain then I'll get him to do a search.

Presumably I can't pick up any points for this?

1 - Usually I find conference stays are booked through companies with a group booking, which are not eligible for points. It doesn't hurt to try and call up the hotel direct and book yourself and ask them to match the group booking rate.

2- Apparently you can pay to do this, but I can't find the info anywhere. Just log into his account and book the rooms under your name.

Thanks for that. True I'm sure someone else does the main conference booking but I'm not sure how the extension goes. Will have to see if I can work something there.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't believe he can earn points for stays booked by corporate conference rates, but conference planners can earn points.
Make sure that they put his HHonors number on the stay at check in, or before and you may get lucky and earn the points!
