To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

VA Platinum is not even close to P1 in "value" or effort/spend to get to. You just can't equate the two.

PPS.. yeah, that is closer.. though prob somewhere between PPS and Solitaire imo

One really should try and compare oranges with oranges, not oranges with pears.

Completely agree, not an apple to apples comparison in any way. Merely curiosity of what is offered between the three. Anyone a Solitaire Singapore Flyer? What did you get from them for Christmas?

With reference, last year (my first and only year of P1) I received the headphones rather than the champagne. I am not a government worker, instead a uni student who is over 18 (so can legally drink). I originally thought that maybe they saw my Dad and I were at the same postal address and thought to only send one bottle, but reading this they don't really put much effort in!

To be fair to QF though, I have had a lot more use out of the headphones than a bottle of champers, so it was a very appreciated gift

Interesting! What sort of headphones did they send you? I had not heard of this as a gift before.

As consistently as you wank on about this, pretty sure you’re just thieving Tony Hancock’s intellectual property.

At least I *am* consistent!!! :D

If Tony wants to claim credit I am happy to cede to the GGL man. :)

A better gift too, in my opinion. As was the travel wallet I got a couple of years ago when incorrectly classified as a government employee P1.

I am sure there are some P1s who have expressed a preference not to have alcoholic gifts. I’m hoping the “not everyone will get champagne” reflects that rather than some P1s miss out altogether.

Just another datapoint for the conspiracy theorists out there.
First year P1 last year I got the headphones (I don't recall the L number on the card).
This year I got the Piper Heidsieck, L1 on the card (delivered today).

I believe I had a DRW address on my profile last year, whereas this year it is MEL... Postage costs factored in perhaps?
Non-Government also.

I had a suburban Melbourne address in my profile so I’m not sure if address matters. I’m sure there’s some weird and wacky method to the madness

Yes...the annual gift is usually just a higher value attached to your KrisShop vouchers. I forget exactly what this year's dollar value was but I think it was somewhere between $300 and $400. For those who are Aus based there are usually a couple of events throughout the year which are also very nice, especially the Chinese New Year events

Should be S$380 for PPS Solitaire. This is annual gift on requalification rather than a Christmas gift. Sometimes I've also gotten a christmas gift, but not every year. Typically a large desk diary, although one year a got a very nice book instead.

Back to QF, my P1 bubbles finally arrived today. LP Rose.

Hi all,

my QFF anniversary is 31 December. I cracked the sh_ts with QF at the start of the year - so have only done about 300 or so needed SC with them. For the past 4 or 5 years was doing somewhere between 4000 and 6000 SC with them. The clock has just ticked over to the new year of 2020 - so far no change in my status, but I know that will take a week or so to settle.

I figure I will post my decline here to add data points. I assume I will drop to WP, or perhaps even bronze. Noone really knows what they do these days :) .....

You’ll drop to WP, that’s what happened to me and seems like what they do now

Has anyone had CL access this holiday period if the business lounge is closed or combined? I’ve been told this practice has been terminated to ensure network consistency. Be interested to hear if that’s actually happening.

CBR J lounge was closed this morning with redirection to QP.

Just a lowly WP myself but entered the lounge behind a traveller with white P1 bag tags - he wasn't directed to the psychedelic frosted glass door.

Mind you CBR is a ghost town at the moment so perhaps the CL wasn't open either.

Christmas day - CBR combined into J - not redirected
02/01 - CBR combined into J - not redirected
05/01 - MEL combined into J - not redirected
06/01 - SYD combined into QP - not redirected

Was hopeful for the Christmas Day visit, but no luck.
Was weird being in the SYD QP, hadn't been there for a while!

It was open in CBR. Attendant came to the QP to explain the changed policy. Plus I caught up later by chance with a former boss who is CL as he departed the lounge.

While it was relatively quiet for a weekday several young kids did make it less pleasant than it would have been in the CL!

Onboard two short Y flights got a CSM offer of wine on the first plus a shadow and then a P1 upgrade (also with shadow) on the second so can’t complain too much.

I was wondering about this. Shame not to get the CL love. Irrationally, getting occasional access would spur me to requal P1.

Especially when it is quiet and you aren’t disturbing the amenity of actual CLs. All I wanted was a quiet place for 30 minutes. The QP was fine but this is a bit of a shame. Then again, we all whinge about inconsistency so if this is now a consistent rule for what was always an unpublished and random benefit - so be it.

Just saw a Facebook 'memory' appear on my phone for 2014 and I was complaining about being shunted to the MEL QP because (the old) MEL J was shut for 'carpet cleaning'. Can't see why I couldn't have turned right from the escalators that day either. The lounge was so full it was ridiculous.

Did not even know that was a thing. I'd never been sent to CL when J closed during Chrissy period and I thought the P1 into CL thing was during major delays where there was a bad crowding issue at major lounges in MEL and SYD.

Have to laugh at the notion of "consistency" as a reason though :D

Yeah, no P1 'upgrade' to CL for me in SYD this past Sunday when the J lounge was closed. It was 1pm, so QP wasn't too rammed. And I was told they were doing 'J lounge service'.

Frequently had P1 'upgrades' to CL in CBR in years gone by during January maintenance.

Did receive my first P1 J upgrade today in a fair while, so that's nice.
