To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Nice to see in the P1 briefing you can now nominate anyone for complimentary Platinum membership

And as for the survey, for me, I don't really benefit much just flying domestic A to B (over WP). So sitting in row 3 on VA or row 4 on QF will do me fine when my P1 membership runs out in 12 months time.

That is a good change - I know everyone has different circumstances, but my wife very rarely travels without me, so her platinum membership was wasted.

Have only skimmed the rest of the new Briefing, but I did notice that there is no "staff interview" - hooray!! (I was dreading that the next staff's pro-tip would be something like "always take your passport with you if you are travelling overseas") :)

Darn. This would have been a perfect perk for son a couple of years ago.
I would have considered striving for P1
Have to say I think it is a great incentive

Yes, a very positive change to P1 by QF and brings it into line with the Platinum Bonus Reward.

Not much else in the Briefing bar a 20% discount on bookings(possibly handy) and some points redemption in the store discount(meh).. not much else

but this is a REAL enhancement!

The Partner Platinum change is awesome. That could be the best tangible feature of P1, second to greater access to award release if that is an actual thing. ie does anyone have an account of a WP calling for classic release, getting denied, then a P1 requesting release for the same seats and getting approved?

News from SST: This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer! :(

Ah, but did they specifically say DSC?

See as far as the system is concerned I see no reason why flights booked under this offer* cannot apply as the discount is on the fare, but still book into eligible classes etc. I would be willing to bet a Sendle delivered bottle of Taittinger that DSC would work.

* Just on the 20% offer, the fine print makes for some interesting reading:
Offer open to Platinum One members booking directly with Qantas only. This offer applies to Qantas operated flights (including QantasLink, Jetconnect and subsidiaries) with a QF flight number and may be used to purchase flights betweenAustralia and Noumea with QF flight number operated by Aircalin, or between Australia and South America with QF flight number operated by LATAM. For international flights the Platinum One Exclusive Fare is available on return flights only. For domestic flights the Platinum One Exclusive Fare is also available on one-way flights. Domestic flights must be booked at least 28 days before departure. Platinum One Exclusive Fares for international includes 15% off First class airfares (F, A), 20% off Business class airfares (J, C and D), 10% off Business (I), 10% off Premium Economy (W, R and T), and 10% off Economy (excludes E). For flights within Australia, the Platinum One Exclusive fare includes 20% off all fares (excludes E). Discount applies to the base fare only. In some instances there may be other sale fares available to the general public that are cheaper than the fares offered under the Platinum One Exclusive Fare. The offer may only be used once and The Platinum One member must be travelling in the booking. Qantas reserves the right to request additional payment for the difference between the Platinum One Exclusive Fare booked and next higher available fare or cancel the booking in full when multiple bookings are made. Qantas reserves the right to withdraw or extend this offer at any time. All travel is subject to availability, the Qantas Conditions of Carriage and fare rules applicable to the booking. Standard fare conditions apply. Offer commences 11 October 2018 and ends 11 November 2018, unless sold out prior. Book by 11 November 2018 for travel until 27 September 2019.

So it's UP to 20% off, with 20% on all domestic bookings (except E, which I reckon is a admission to the booking engine known issue with domestic E class) and between 10-20% on international fares (noting that 20% for JCD but 10% for discount/sale business fares booked into I).

What catches my eye is QF operated AND coded flights on SB to NOU(odd) and coded flights to South America on LA

very specific..... and makes me wonder why.

Good Afternoon Mr Jackson,

As per the T&C’s of the Double Status Credit offer it is not combinable with any other Qantas offer. Please be aware that the Double status can be applied to multiple booking whereas the Platinum One discount only applies to 1 booking.

Kind Regards

I think they're confused. Seriously.

In the context of DSC offer I believe that the "any other Qantas offer" refers to bonus points/SC promotions.

For example, people have booked using Business Rewards discounts and received DSC.. people also book through TA's with corporate discounts and the like and received DSC's.

While obviously I can't be 100% certain I'd be willing to bet DSC would apply to a booking made before Oct 16th using this P1 offer.

I'm contemplating a domestic booking with this offer so I may well be my own guinea pig. and if so, am happy to report back for future reference.

ugh I can't get a domestic fare to come up with discount for December.. so maybe not. LOL

I presume you are logged in?

yup, and +28 days AP but it just gives me the same pricing as the regular pages.
I took it to the payment page once I confirmed myself as pax (ie: "The P1 member must be flying") and thought it might kick in but no.

now I have 3 pending bookings (LOL) but they will cancel tonight so that's fine.

odd. I've had it work in the past. Must be another fun bug :)

The T&Cs do say public fares may be cheaper at times so maybe they base the discount off the full fare? It would not surprise me one bit if they did that

I did think of that, but then they specify all fare types and booking classes (bar E) for domestic and int, which suggests the discount should be applied.

Now to be fair I was looking at D class fares for routes like MEL-CNS and MEL-OOL.. maybe tomorrow I'll check how Y fares look, but I know previously I've seen the discounts kick in, even on F sale fares (eg A class).

Anyway just frustrating

I actually think someone in QF may have actually paid attention to that survey that was run some time back. As for the briefing telling me how many flights I was on with QF surprised me I thought there would have been more so maybe the EK codeshares and other OW are not included. I am also VP WP and *G so maybe the QF (only) flights seems about right. I entered that competition and am not holding my breath on winning and actually would not sure how to squeeze it in however if I did win I would find a way. There is a better better chance of winning this than the lotto.

For the other P1's who have not been able to use the partner WP this was the best change of all. I am able to use this and it is one of the best benefits when I travel with Mrs and MissM as we can use all the OW F lounges.

I think you guys are clutching at straws a little.

As an aside AA now treats me like a Concierge Key holder, there seems to be some mutual recognition between BA and AA of their top tier flyers. Is this the same between QF and AA?

Some reciprocal recognition, similar to this AA and BA GGL tie up, would be a valuable enhancement especially for AA connections in theirs hubs plus Concierge Key checkin and boarding. Additionally, mirroring the GGL, a hotel status opt in would add significant value to this 'status' level of which stock standard VA SG and WP offer.
