To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Has anyone contacted the SST about status retention in relation to COVID-19 (realize there is a general thread on this). Only looking for SST / P1 experience.
I haven’t approached them.

Princess Fiona, further to your post, and completely understanding that your interest is P1 specific: I am interested if QF will offer any lowered P1 qualifications this year. I dropped off my P1 perch at the start of the year but am planning large travels in the second half of the year. Perhaps QF will see that much travel will be curtailed this year, so there could be some change in the base requirement? I cannot see any benefit to QF of losing half their P1's because of the virus...

So if anyone does talk to the SST, I would be very interested in the detail that QF shares.

Even though at the moment I am just a WP scum unworthy of participation :)

Edit: just noticed with this post that my AFF profile still has me as a confirmed P1??

I will ask next time I need to call them - have had 2 domestic and 4 international trips cancelled so far by work - not looking good for my retention.

Maybe we should set up a change.org for retention of P1 status lol

On a more serious note if we all respond to the survey and in the free text write that Qantas should consider extending P1 membership for a year or reducing the requalification threshold they may listen if we all say it?

Or someone could be proactive to write a letter to Ashley Bayer with P1s co-signing?

Or even keep on asking the SST about it.

If the past is anything to go by, they will not budge on P1 requalification.
I don't know of any instances where a comp or extension on P1 was given. I know of several cases over time where someone was very close to requalification but they said no.
WP and lower, sure - but who knows what the new parameters will be.

If anyone has an account where P1 was comped when the strict criteria were not met, we'd all love to hear some details....

These are the same people who (cynically I would contest) brought us the 75k SC LTP after a lot of feedback from P1’s.

They aren’t comping P1 IMO. Expect some more DSC events which won’t help me as work has just announced a blanket indefinite ban on overseas travel and domestic limited to critical travel only.

Certainly they don't need to comp P1 but when else have they downsized so many flights and routes in such a short space of time? This period of time is looking to be more serious than GFC of '08 when it comes to markets, business travel, health, etc

I believe QF will continue their very hard line on P1 qualification.

I could see more DSC. Frankly I think QF would do well to basically give DSC to everyone for flights between say now and 30June. I mean forget registering and all that. if you flew it you get the DSC. Or if not DSC, +50%. I mean at a time when they'll be hurting it may be one way to effectively lower the qualification level but still induce some spend. which is what they need.

IIRC I saw a comment somewhere that the SST said they would review on a case by case basis and people would need to provide details of cancelled bookings (ie: PNRS) as proof of intent to travel....

Hmmm - I don't think I've had more than a couple of revenue bookings 2 months in advance of travel for the past three years. If cancelled bookings were to be the sole criteria used it would be ridiculous.

Many of my flights are booked a few days in advance so count me out

Given I’ve been on a company imposed travel ban since mid Feb and my membership year restarts in April that counts me out.

On an unrelated note I received my first P1 invite to the cricket this weekend in SYD. Unfortunately I can’t go which is a bummer!

How close are you to 3600?

If your normal travel would have continued in Feb/Mar/Apr that would have gotten you over the line, I think it would be appropriate to contact the SST in April and express this and ask if there's anything they might do - ie review your history of travel etc.

I mean if you, for example, averaged say 300-400 SC earn/month for 9 months, then dropped to near zero, I think it could be reasonable to assume you'd have gotten there easily. I could see if you were sitting at say 3200 or something it might be common sense to do something for you. Really hard to know. I imagine IF they did reviews they'd take into account your company's rship with QF, your $$$ value to them (the "PCV" I guess as discussed previously here) and such.

For me? I'm over half way through my year and not even 1400 SC earned on that basis I wouldn't ask or expect anything.

I think there should be some common sense shown, but in the past QF have held a hard line so I guess time will tell what they do.

Richard - that which you suggested might happen did so this morning, with my wife (WP) offered a 50% DSC option bookable 11-17MAR20 for travel 11MAR-09JUL20. Registration was required.

There's a few targeted promos going out today it seems.

We'll know they're desperate if P1's get any as we don't tend to get targeted offers in my experience.

incidently 50% bonus SC's is not DSC(double) but that's just nitpicking :)

apologies for not being clear here. I’ve qualified for P1 this membership year (thru to 31 March 20) and will therefore have it thru to March 21. My point more relates to depending on how long these travel restrictions remain in place mean that due to lack of travel in say the first quarter of my membership year will mean I won’t qualify for P1 once I reset in April. Have already had three international trips cancelled (these weren’t booked just scheduled) across April / May and I won’t be able to go to SST this time next year with cap in hand and be able to point to bookings that were cancelled.

A lot of promos etc but the issue remains. A lot of folks have had bans on pretty much most travel since feb. Therefore it stands to reason that a lot of folks won't make P1.

Have had several trips cancelled, few more booked however cannot see how its likely to be feasible to travel hence will cancel at some stage. Qantas cannot decide on booked flights alone as lots won't even make it to the planning stage given bans etc. Could mean more folks will be looking around when this blows over.

Some hotels are giving extensions without even asking.

Suspect Qantas won't however will be forced to if other come out of the blocks with a waiver or extension for another year.
Don't understand why they would not in order to retain loyalty? Does it really cost Qantas to have current level for another year? Given travel/SC's normally 3 or 4 times that of say a WP. One would assume a lot to loose if these move to other options out there? Am I missing something? Any thoughts?

I can't really see it costing Qantas anything except for maybe the Christmas gift worth ~$300 and the occasional upgrade or event invite (which are purely discretionary so could easily not).

I would argue it would cost QF more to extend a person on SG for an additional year as that keeps them with lounge access whereas P1 there isn't a real difference between WP and P1. At P1 we still only get access to F-Lounges etc which is the same as WP and given that we get a soft landing to WP then will still get that for an additional year in which we should theoretically be able to earn again.

You cannot suggest things like this on this forum there may be an uprising. The amount of times I have read how important SG are I started to wonder if they were at top of the status totem pole. ;)

Other programs lately have been offering reduced targets for status (or credits towards it - same thing).. IF there was any move by QF I think this is the way they would go.

but not for P1.

It would be nice for sure to have another year at whatever level (specially P1 :) ) but I just can't see it happening.

I guess we'll see how desperate things get over the next few months... things are changing rapidly.
